Research has shown that the first year pedicel size of the yearlings will influence the buck antlers in adult stage as your bucks mature. A portion of the bucks antlers each year will be drawn from his skeletal bone structure where he stores calcium and phosphorus, he will need additional calcium and phosphorous as well as nine other minerals that have been found through studies of antlers. Two of the other important minerals found were magnesium and sodium. Other trace minerals included potassium, iron, zinc, manganese and several other trace minerals are present in antlers as well. Growing antlers are comprised of roughly 80% protein and 20% minerals whereas hardened antler are comprised of roughly equal amounts of 50% protein and 50% minerals.
