2026 STAR-SPANGLED SHAMBLEMANIA ON JULY 4
TO CELEBRATE AMERICA’S 250th BIRTHDAY
Golf Event to Raise funds for Mesquite Iron Cactus Memorials
Dear Friends in Golf,
Please consider this a formal invitation to join me for what has become a very special tradition in Mesquite – the annual Independence Day Golf Tournament on July 4. This year’s gala golf event will take on added significance, since we will be celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States and the 250th Independence Day, and because the 2026 event will serve as a fundraiser for the Mesquite Iron Cactus Memorial Project, of which I am proud to serve as the Volunteer Project Director.
This year’s Star-Spangled Shamblemania will be held at Falcon Ridge Golf Club in Mesquite, since the Oasis Palmer Championship course is scheduled for overseeding and will be closed. The traditional food, fun and golf fireworks will be turned up a notch or three to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday, and we would love you to join us for the traditional 18-hole shamble format, with plenty of pomp, ceremony and prizes highlighting the day.
Since Falcon Ridge will be renovating its greens on the back nine beginning on June 15, we will be playing the front nine twice, which will be a fun format for the 72 players participating in the scramble format with a few twists (similar format to previous years). Golf begins with a 7 a.m. shotgun start, with check-in at 6 a.m. A special July 4 awards luncheon will follow golf at Scotty’s Grille rather than the traditional dinner-dance in the evening, since we don’t want to conflict with the City of Mesquite’s huge 250th USA anniversary fireworks program on the evening of July 4 at the Mesquite Regional Sports and Event Complex.
As mentioned, the Star-Spangled Shamblemania will benefit the Mesquite Iron Cactus Memorial Project this year. The project, which has the support of the City of Mesquite, Mesquite Mayor Whipple, and the entire community, is dedicated to the creation and installation of 10-15 seven-foot-tall cactus made completely of golf-club heads to pay homage to tens of thousands of golfers who have enjoyed a round in Mesquite during the past several decades.
The first Iron Cactus Memorial was installed at Mesquite City Hall, and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you drive by, park, and take a few selfies! Each cactus sculpture requires about 500 clubheads, so if you have old clubs you aren’t using any more, please call me and I will arrange to pick them up. We need club donations to make the memorials work!
Again, I personally invite you to join us for the Star-Spangled Shamblemania on July 4, which will honor our country’s 250th birthday and contribute to the Iron Cactus Memorial Project. It promises to be a fun, memorable event!
Cordially,
