Last Monday, we led two professional development sessions for a group of toddler and preschool teachers. For the newer teachers, we focused on the basics of process art (āitās all about the process- not about the product!ā), the developmental benefits of process art for young children, and potential barriers for incorporating it into the classroom, as well as ways to overcome those barriers. Then, the teachers got a chance to use a variety of materials for printmaking. They loved the hands-on opportunities!
For the experienced teachers, we discussed their classroom setups. They spent time drawing their classrooms from last year, and then we asked questions to help them think critically about why their classroom setups work, what doesnāt work as well, and what they want to try to do differently this year. Next, they used boxes and loose parts to create their ideal classrooms. We loved the thought and creativity that went into these creations!
