“Discipline is doing what you are supposed to do in the best possible manner at the time you are supposed to do it.”
— Mike Krzyzewski
Our season began earlier than recent years as the federation aimed to increase excitement and thus participation. I remember hearing the news at Nationals in 2023 and looking at both Barbara and Michelle with huge bug eyes. We kind of laughed as we witnessed "off season" quickly become nonexistent.
What I love about the quote above, is that it addresses presence - "at the time you are supposed to do it." Most athletes can attest to the wave of adrenaline that occurs on the day of competition and if you've been watching any of the Olympic Games, you've seen how different athletes respond to this wave.
Alice, Barbara, and Michelle did exactly what they were supposed to do in the best possible manner given all circumstances at the time.
I am not only a proud coach, but an inspired one.

Today I was working out with someone who has chronic back pain. I noticed a movement they were "naturally" doing in which I then queued: I don't need you to lower back to the floor "one vertebrae at a time."
She laughed and said that she had to figure out how to not do that. I then provided a suggestion and she lifted into a bridge pose without pain.
I've been interested in teaching how to move without pain. A year ago, I made the choice to learn how to personally move without pain. I expanded my curriculum outside of yoga to understand more techniques.
