Four exercises from a recent leg day, but the first two are really where the theme starts.
On the squat, I’m lowering on one leg and standing back up with two. That lets me load the descent heavier than I could ever stand up with on one leg.
As the load gets more aggressive, the eccentric isn’t supposed to keep looking slower. I’m fighting to control the descent, but the load is forcing me to yield faster. That’s the quality I’m after, producing force while accepting, braking and reorganizing under a load that actually challenges me.
Then I take that conversation to the hurdles.
Now the window to accept and redirect force is much shorter. Hit the ground organized, maintain stiffness and get back off it without hanging around. I’m not just trying to clear hurdles. I’m trying to make every contact look the same.
The last two fill in some of the pieces that are often overlooked.
One keeps pressure through the big toe and the ankle involved while the glute and hamstring work up the chain. The other asks one hip to hold extension while the opposite side drives aggressively into flexion.
Heavy braking. Quick contacts. Foot-to-hip connection. Frontside and backside working together.
Four exercises. Four different jobs.
