Midway Super Skating Center

Directions

Midway Super Skating Center Skating Center of the late 70's to early 80's. Admin: Joseph A. Garcia. started a second coming of roller skating. Known today as Mall of the Americas.

In September of 1977, Three local guys, Stuart Kauffman, Bob Shapiro and Norman Sharp opened a new wave of skating... It had a booming sound system, and Disco lighting similar to the ones in night clubs. Midway Skating Center was one of them, unfortunately it all had to end in February of 1983 :( . It was located right across from a shopping center called Midway Mall. If you were one of the many that came here add this page.

In memory of Frankie Monje 😔 some of you may not know him because we were a couple of years older, but if you remember the last years of Midway when Breaking, Popping and Locking came around. A small crew used to come to Midway to dance and show their talent. They would show up with the Camo Pants & The Guardian Angles T-shirts Frank Monje was one of the skinniest dancers lol, when they would all get together and dance it was a totally different vibe.
Castle Park was the next stop, then Video Powerhouse and so on & so on.
The next posting I'm going to post is one of the favorite songs Frankie would ask me to play when I pulled up with my car and they were all hanging outside by the basketball courts across from McDonald's Park in Hialeah. Club 8600 on Biscayne Blvd, Big Daddy's on 49th St in Hialeah....
Yeah I can name many places many of you would never walk into but they would just to go dance for a few hours. Seems like it was just yesterday...🥹
