Offense ➡️ Defense ➡️ Offense ➡️ Defense
This point is a perfect example of how quickly doubles can change.
Return side — Offense
✅ Return
✅ 2 in
Serving side — Defense
✅ Lob over the net player
Return side — Defense
✅ 2 back to track down the lob
Serving side — Offense
✅ 2 in behind the lob
✅ Looking for the overhead
In doubles, momentum can change with a single shot.

Ever find yourself on the service line with your partner?
Two things can happen… and neither is good. 🤪
1. You end up fighting over the same ball.
2. The ball goes right between you like it did in this clip.
Both scenarios happen because nobody knows whose ball it is.
Here’s the fix:
Stay staggered!
✅ The player closer to the net stays aggressive and owns the front court.
✅ The player approaching the net stays slightly behind and staggered.
Now everyone knows their responsibility, court coverage improves, and there’s no confusion about whose ball it is.
TeamForman says:
“2 on the service line is no bueno.” 🫵🤪

Close off the middle by playing
DPO tennis 🤪
When playing 2 up tennis
(my favorite 😏) it is imperative to be staggered to close off the middle.
When you’re on the service line and your opponent is moving forward, challenge her by closing the net! This makes it that much harder for your opponents to target the middle.
It’s counterintuitive to move in when your opponent is moving in… but trust me, challenge them and don’t DPO! 🫵
TeamForman says:
“The closer you are to the net, the smaller the holes become.”
Bonus Tip 💥
“Your first act of defense should be offense.”

Build your point with 3 shots from the baseline to the net.
1. Baseline shot
Start with a crosscourt or middle ball to begin creating the hole.
2. Transition shot
Go the opposite way and stretch the court.
3. Finish shot
As you close into the net, the court opens wider and wider for the put away.
Most rec players try to end the point too early.
TeamForman builds the point one shot at a time.
Easy as 1, 2, 3 🫵
Do you perform CPR on your opponents? 🚑🎾
When you have the opportunity to end the point from the net and you hit the ball back to players standing on the baseline…
You are literally bringing your opponents back to life. 🤦♀️
In this video, Carolina — a.k.a. “Resuscitation Carolina” 🤪 — had 3 opportunities to end the point.
But instead of finishing, she gave them oxygen.
TeamForman says:
“Don’t breathe life into your opponents.”
Bonus tip:
The #1 reason you get lobbed is because you hit or volley the ball back to the baseline.

Where do you serve from? 🎯
Are you that player who stands way out wide to serve wide…
and then hugs the middle to serve up the T?
If so… you may be starting the point WAY out of position. 🤦♀️
These positions are extreme.
And when you do anything extreme in tennis…
you leave an EXTREME amount of court exposed.
Most rec players become so focused on where they’re serving…
they forget about what happens AFTER the serve.
Tennis is not just about the serve.
It’s about the next shot.
💥 The 3rd shot is the money shot.
If you pull yourself too far off the court, your recovery becomes longer, slower, and more defensive.
A few inches of adjustment? Smart.
A few feet? Disaster waiting to happen.
TeamForman says:
“Don’t serve yourself out of the point before the rally even starts.” 🫵

There’s always a solution to a problem.
The problem:
Lob return of serve to the server’s backhand.
The question:
What adjustment should we make?
The answer:
Try Australian… or back up all the way to the baseline.
The mistake:
Rec players tend to adjust back to the service line.
That is the WORST positioning.
Why?
Because now you’ve opened up every hole on the court:
down the line, at your feet, over your head, and right through the middle.
TeamForman rule:
Don’t adjust halfway. Adjust with a purpose.

Fearing the lob 😱
Most rec players avoid coming to net behind the lob because they fear getting lobbed.
So what do they do instead?
They stay on the baseline…
and let the lob bounce over their head 🤦♀️
I ask the same question over and over again like I did in this video:
“Why wouldn’t you come to net?”
The answer?
“Because of the lob.”
It’s mind boggling to me how many rec players don’t FEEL how defensive it is to let a lob bounce.
When you let it bounce:
❌ you give up court position
❌ you lose control
❌ you put yourself immediately on defense
If you start taking lobs in the air it will be a GAME CHANGER. Trust me!!
TeamForman says:
“If you play in fear of the lob, you will never become an aggressive player.” 🫵
Bloquv ☀️ Code: TEAMFORMAN15
Don’t let the lines constrict your movement.
You and your partner have to cover the WHOLE court together.
When 2 people are in… 2 people should be back.
If not, the one who stays up becomes extremely vulnerable.
And when you back up, you may only get back to no man’s land…
THAT’S OK! 🤪
There are no boundaries on the court when you’re defending and recovering.
Too many rec players get trapped playing “inside the lines” instead of using the entire court to position themselves for the best possible shot.
Use space.
Create space.
Recover through space.
The whole court belongs to you. 🫵
“Good court coverage has no boundaries.”
