The Shala Closed due to Covid-19
in August 2020. I have decided to keep the page for our community

05/10/2024

In November 2016, during my daily Ashtanga Yoga practice, on my 3rd Surya Namaskara, I, Caro Balan, made a pivotal decision. I resolved to prioritize self-love and respect, letting go of a life that didn’t serve my true essence or dreams. In 2018, I founded my own yoga Shala, Miami Vedic Center, in a Miami suburb, fostering a close-knit community and fulfilling my calling as a yoga teacher. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of my beloved Shala in 2020. Despite this setback, I found new purpose as an Esthetician, opening Dharma Skin, a business I’m passionate about. Amidst these changes, I’ve held onto a cherished dream: Art4Yoga. This project, born from love and inspiration, aims to unite art and yoga in a global community. I invite you to support this endeavor by purchasing our Tank Tops and T-Shirts, as we continue to grow and share our vision with the world. Welcome to Art4Yoga, where creativity and mindfulness converge.

Please share my project with your friends and thank you very much for supporting it! 🙏🏽🫶🏽✨

It would be logical to ask the question then why don’t we all just come into Mysore class at 6am and like good meditators just sit still for two hours? The answer: because no one is going to show up to class! We are universally so restless, to merely sit is to invite the opposite of stillness and lucidity. One of the reasons having an experience of yoga is so rare is that yoga only comes to us when we become absolutely still.

So we move and take advantage of our restlessness, but we don’t lose sight of the prize of nirodha, cessation of activity. We become dynamic and then find stillness we purposely move and then stop that movement on purpose. We intentionally and vigorously activate the body and the mind, and then we go into complete rest, total inertia. Through repeatedly embracing activity eventually we come to embrace stillness, and for many of us more stubborn customers this process can take a long, long, long time—read decades.

But keep practicing and the love of stillness will come and rival the love of being constantly active. Each of us will come to our own threshold, a tipping point where staying in the asana sounds better than flying or floating through the next transition-and it won't be because we are tired. Each of us will have had enough of movement, like a chocolatier eventually has enough of chocolate. Shavasana will become the best asana-YES! Perhaps you doubt me, but it will happen, Hari OM!

“I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.”—Socrates

They say “Caro” I need you!
I thank them and I thank God for all the 💕. It is an honor to me when my students tell me such a thing.
Even though I teach them non attachments “Aparigraha”, I also need them as well and a lot.
Thank you
For all your love and for your company in the moments when I need you the most.
