I can’t believe it’s been 20 years already. I still remember it like yesterday. I had just graduated HS and started college. I woke up to my alarm clock radio talking about the plane that hit the first tower and turned on my TV just in time to see the second tower get hit on live TV. I remember being so innocent to terrorism. I had no idea what was happening until my mom called me and explained we were under attack. ⁣

Still made the trip all the way to Barry University’s main campus and watched the towers continue to burn and people jump to their deaths on the bus TVs that used to transport students from the student parking lot. I got to my first class to see most of the students missing and some crying because they had family in the city. We were sent home because everything including downtown Miami went into lockdown. My eyes were opened that day and my innocence to domestic terrorism gone forever, replaced with anger and sadness. It still stings even though I personally did not loose anyone that day but just like humanity all over the world, our hearts went out to our fellow brothers and sisters. Freedom was threatened, people were changed, and lives lost that same day as well as years later to physical and mental health decline. ⁣

The memory of that day is forever etched in our hearts. Being the wife of a first responder, I can only imagine how hard it was to lose your hero’s that day, as well as family members who said goodbye to their loved ones for the last time that morning. My heart is with you today. We will never forget. ❤️🇺🇸 #911
