The title above is intended to encourage discussion as to the best resident use of Melreese Golf Course. If you believe in PUBLIC INPUT, please COMMENT and SHARE.

Because many Miami residents are troubled about the scarcity and treatment of parks in Miami, I created this Facebook PAGE to give residents an opportunity to discuss the very best use of the largest improved green space owned by City of Miami residents, the Melreese Golf Course.

If Mayor Suarez and others in city government wanted to change the use of this green park land they should have held public discussions in every neighborhood. That did not happen.

Residents got to vote for or against a huge commercial project with soccer as the lure. That is history.

Voters gave the Miami Commission the authority to negotiate a lease with one developer. BUT NOW IS THE TIME for residents to define what that lease can achieve on that green land to best serve all Miami residents.

Assuming this one developer deal survives two court challenges, I urge Miami residents to be united around a group of uses or a concept broader than just a HUGE commercial development and soccer fields. Let's get creative!

One concept is to include more sports than soccer. Thus the idea of
MIAMI SPORTS CENTER at MELREESE.

In addition to a stadium, 23 soccer fields, water park, baseball fields, KEEP 9 holes of golf and a driving range or facility.

Why not add outdoor volley ball courts, an olympic size swim pool, lush shaded landscaping for running, walking, biking and just sitting and visiting with someone who may be different than you.

AND there would still be 15-20 acres left for commercial activity to make it all financially feasible.

THE BEST PART OF ANY CONCEPT is that if residents insist, the Commissioners must fully follow the Miami Parks Master Plan by replacing the lost green areas with quality landscaped green parks needed in 25 park poor neighborhoods around Miami!

Noisy polluted land under Metrorail should not count as quality green park land replacement. Metro Rail is not close to the 25 neighborhoods which need the parks!

Impact Fees for Parks on the buildings and lease fees can make this financially possible!

With public input and a City Commission willing to hear it's residents, a transparent deal can be a HUGE WIN for all Miami residents, not just another public land grab by one developer with a single sport concept.

Of course this is one concept of best use for this green land. Please add your ideas below and I hope a united concept will emerge on this page.
