Stop planting one food plot and hoping it does two jobs. 👇
Most fall annual plots need a frost to trigger real attraction, and deer have to learn to key in on brassicas before 100% brassica plots get hit heavy — so you’re not getting a strong draw right away, you’re waiting on the calendar. And by spring, it’s done. Gone. Bare dirt and weeds where a plot used to be, no food source keeping deer patterned on your property through summer, and you’re starting from scratch again next fall. Meanwhile a perennial clover plot holds strong all spring and summer… but once it gets cold, it loses its punch fast — right when hunting season is actually getting good and you need it most.
So I quit choosing. This fall I ran — peas, wheat, rye, radish, turnip — seed that grows fast and pulls deer right away, and they learn to love the brassicas fast. It keeps peaking as the cold sets in and carries hard through hunting season. Mixed with , and once that fall blend plays out, the clover and chicory underneath are already established and take over — greening up and pulling deer all spring and summer, keeping the ground covered and weeds out until it’s time to plant again.
No more choosing between a great fall plot and a great summer plot. Plant both at once and let each one do its job on its own timeline.
