Had a fun little trip up the mountains yesterday, got to enjoy seeing lots of elk, deer, and turkeys on the way up. The hot springs were perfect, the river was cold as hell, it was a great getaway for a Sunday.

Promised the kids if they did their chores we would go shoot. I haven’t done this for a long time and it was a lot of fun. Elijah was pretty impressive with his shooting, Hunter ended up breaking his first clay pigeon on the very last pull of the evening, and Maci was dang close several times. We will have to do this again soon.

Most of the time this is why I love to pack my bow or rifle around the mountains. Being somewhere new and having the opportunity to see places like this, always a blessing.

I always think I should find more elk sheds for all of the miles I put in, so finding one is always a pleasant surprise. Now the boys and I just need to find one that has both of these still on his head… 2 days left.

My Boys… I’m blessed these two young men love the outdoors and have a passion for hunting. Just a side note… Elijah has officially started to out hike me and Hunter isn’t far behind. We did over 8 miles in the mountains yesterday and both of the boys killed it… literally.

I’m tired. The boys had a full day and learned more in 12 hours than most. Lots of fun and tons of experience.

Moon Pic #2. Just before bedtime the moon slipped over the ridge.

Some bulls are just different. The bull that snapped this tree in half… is different. Tons of scrapes and rubs in this area, here are just a couple. Bulls are the greatest threat to our evergreens and timber industry, it’s our duty as hunters to preserve our forests by harvesting these destructive animals. Bow hunting is a real suck and elk are jerks.

The moon at 4:30am… like I said, the scenery was better than the hunting. Elk are jerks and bow hunting sucks… in case you’re wondering.

Frozen Morning… right at 11 degrees this morning. We had wolves calling from the canyon above us, the elk were mostly quiet and held up in deep pockets far from any road. Got within 50 yards of the here bull several times, but nothing to show for it. The scenery was better than the elk hunting.

._wilson23 surprised me with an early birthday present, I think this means she wants me to hurry up and go get our firewood cut for the year. This is an amazing saw, this is a lifetime saw for me… thank you babe. Now I just have to take my fat butt into the woods and get to work… between elk hunts, of course.
