Your Natural Learner - Leah McDermott 💙
Dear Friends,
There has been a lot of confusing information with all sorts of meanings linked to Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Before DEI was a term, the work of setting up policies that help us as a society take care of our most vulnerable has been going on under different names. Please consider this from the WPEC and stay in the conversation about who we want to be as a society.
This information was originally posted by the Wisconsin Professional Employees Council.

Some of what DEI is:
-ramps and sidewalk curb cuts
-subtitles & captions (TV & phone)
-family restrooms
-changing tables in men's restrooms
-breast feeding/pumping stations & accommodations
-floating paid holidays
-pay equity & transparency
-parental leave (time & pay)
-coming back to a job after birthing a child
-not having to just accept workplace harassment
-work accommodations for a variety of disabilities
-flexible work arrangements
-size inclusive chairs and beds in medical facilities
-belt extenders on planes
-various food options for vegetarians/vegans/kosher/gluten-free/etc at medical facilities
-non smoking areas/end of smoking indoors
-being able to have medical professionals and your coworkers use your preferred name (not just q***r people have those)
-wellness programs and incentives
-more relaxed & inclusive dress code policies
-rooms to pray/meditate at work & other public places
-employee recognition programs
-employee/network resource groups
-large print materials
-materials in different languages
-multiple religious options at hospitals
-accessible bikes and public transit accommodations
-businesses not becoming fully cashless
-company-covered mental/behavioral health resources
Some of what DEI is not
-hiring an under qualified person for a job just because they're a person of color
-hiring based on race just to meet diversity goals (this is illegal)
-a new fad or buzz word. DEI work has been going on for many many years, under different names.

Has anyone experienced this from healthcare providers?

A friend posted this…. have had many CPR classes over the years but was never told this…..
Have you ever thought about it ❤️
When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then ?
A rarely good post that can't be shared often enough:
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

I have been a long-time fan of basil, mint, thyme, and rosemary plants. I love rubbing my fingers together with the leaves in between, then smelling the aroma. It's a wonderful pause in often hectic times. Apparently, this is a thing. Read and enjoy. What are your favorite plants?

Resilience is key. What is important to know when our healthcare advisers have become processors and we need caregivers.
