CELEBRATING Y PEOPLE!

SUMMER CAMP STAFF 2026

This month, we’re celebrating the incredible role models, entertainers, and magic makers who made the summer of 2026 unforgettable for hundreds of children here at the Newport County YMCA. They brought energy, enthusiasm, and heart to everything they did - often in extreme heat or torrential downpour!
From creating unforgettable camp experiences to making every camper feel welcomed, supported, and included, this team consistently demonstrated what it means to be Y People.

We are grateful for the dedication, teamwork, compassion, and patience they displayed every day.

Thank you so much for our outstanding Summer Camp Sponsors for believing that all children deserve to have an outstanding summer!

Congratulations, Summer Camp Staff of 2026—you are our Y People of the Month! Enjoy some well- deserved rest!

🌉🏃‍♀️ What an incredible day at the Pell Bridge Run! 🏃‍♂️🌉

We were so proud to have the Y participate in the Pell Bridge Run! It was an especially meaningful day for Jess, who courageously tackled her fear of bridges in support of our APA programming. What an amazing accomplishment! 💙 We’re so proud of her for stepping outside her comfort zone and showing that with support, determination, and a little courage, incredible things are possible.

And the fun didn’t stop there! Our wonderful TAN teachers took on the challenge too, crossing the bridge and showing their support every step of the way. 🙌
It was a day filled with teamwork, encouragement, and celebrating personal victories. We love seeing our Y community come together to challenge themselves and support one another! 💪💙

Way to go, Jess, our TAN teachers, and everyone who participated! 🎉

Due to the rain, Child Watch will be closed today. With close to 400 children indoors for camp today, we need to utilize the space to accommodate our campers.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We will resume our regular Child Watch hours tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Fall is just around the corner!

As families start making plans for the new school year, don’t forget to plan for the hours before and after the school day, too!

The Y offers Out of School Time (OST) programs right at local schools, providing a safe, supportive, and fun place for children to learn, grow, connect with friends, and stay active while parents and caregivers are at work.

From homework help and enrichment activities to play, friendship, and plenty of fun, OST helps make the transition back to school a little easier for the whole family.

Plan ahead for fall and see what OST options are available at your local Y!

💙 Jamila’s Aquatic Success Story! 🏊‍♀️

Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone! After months of patience, practice, trust-building, and determination, Jamila jumped into the deep end—all by herself! 🎉

Jamila began as one of our most nervous swimmers, needing lots of reassurance and time to feel safe in the water. Her journey helped reinforce why we created our New/Nervous (Y1/P1) level—a gentler approach that gives children the time, trust, and confidence they need before expecting skills.

Through months of small victories, tears, laughter, and lots of practice, Jamila learned that she could challenge herself at her own pace. This summer, she joined our new Daily Swim Lessons program, where she began relaxing, playing, making friends, and truly enjoying the water.

And then came the big moment: the deep-end jump! 💦🙌

After another session of Daily Lessons, we’re thrilled to share that Jamila has officially advanced to Y3 Advanced Beginner for the fall!

Her story is a beautiful reminder that progress doesn't always happen quickly—but with patience, consistency, trust, supportive families, and the right approach, amazing things can happen.

We are SO proud of you, Jamila! Keep swimming, keep practicing, and keep being brave! 💙🏊‍♀️👏
Sometimes the biggest victories start with simply learning that the water is a safe place to be.
