BREAKING NEWS, 10:12 p.m. - Middletown captured its second straight Section 9 Class A flag football championship with a 21-20 victory over Kingston on Friday night in Highland Falls.
The Middies trailed 13-7 at halftime, and then 20-7 in the third quarter - but rallied for two late touchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:40 left.
Congratulations, Middletown! Thanks for Mr. Coates for the photo.
RIP Coach.
We’re really going to miss the battles at the Mark Stephens tourney every year.
It was a privilege.

Coach Owen was one of the true great ones.
Loved the sport for the greatness it offers kids.
We had some great battles with his always tough teams. Always greeted us with a smile and a great handshake regardless of the outcome.
We’ll miss those moments with him.
Wrestling world took a huge loss with his passing.
RIP Coach.

Going from D1 Stony Brook to D3 Cortland was one of the best decisions I ever made, for many reasons.
This is a fantastic article from another former athlete.

Nobody wants to say this out loud:
Nearly 1 in 3 college athletes quit, because they lose passion for the game.
Many quit after the first year, because once they get there they realize the sport has become a job.
And while everyone glorifies the NCAA transfer portal, nearly 80 percent of student athletes who entered last year never found another school and “retired.”
Social media has sold kids (and their parents) the dream that “D-I or bust” is the only path that matters.
It’s not.
JUCO. NAIA. D3.
Those levels can change lives, too, by opening doors you’d never imagine.
If you want to play, there’s a place for you. Sorry to say this, but playing in college is no longer a flex.
Finding the RIGHT fit - not the flashiest one for clicks - is.
Don’t let the ego block a road.
Remember: Not every great sports story starts on ESPN or a post on social media.

Bear Cave has 4 wrestlers heading out to Fargo ND for the USAW Nationals as part of Team NY!
We are currently working to help them all off set the cost of the journey.
Having seen first hand, watching Hailey last year, the growth that comes with the trip and how they return not only stronger wrestlers, but more confident people, the experience is 100% worth it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are looking to donate to one athlete, please leave their name in the comments and we’ll credit it to their trip.
