Congratulations Layla!!

We’re very excited to announce our winners of the 2026 O.P.E.R.A.T.E. Scholarships in the Mid-Atlantic Region! These scholarship awards are very special to us, because these are OURS! 
Our O.P.E.R.A.T.E. scholarships are given to a male and female athlete who O.P.E.R.A.T.E.S. with all Seven Definitions of a Positive Athlete on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Layla Dukes - Middletown High School

🏑 Congratulations to Layla Dukes, our Female OPERATE Scholarship Award Winner!

A standout student-athlete, scholar, and servant leader, Layla has built an incredible legacy at Middletown High School and beyond. Ranked near the top of her class, captain of both the tennis and field hockey teams, and a member of the Puerto Rico National Field Hockey Team, Layla leads with excellence while always putting others first.

Whether mentoring young athletes, organizing Girls in Sports Day, serving through Best Buddies, or creating volunteer opportunities for fellow students, Layla consistently uses her leadership to encourage, include, and uplift those around her. Her compassion, humility, and commitment to service perfectly reflect the values of OPERATE.

Congratulations, Layla, on this well-deserved honor! 👏💙

Reminder for our Appoquinimink families — tomorrow, June 3, is the last day of school for seniors! All three high schools will hold their commencement ceremonies on Saturday, June 6, at the Fairview Campus.

Middletown High School graduation begins at 9:30 a.m.
Odessa High School DE graduation begins at 1:30 p.m.
Appoquinimink High School graduation begins at 5:30 p.m.
