We are deeply honored to receive this letter of endorsement from President Lee Sung-woo of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Taekwondo Association (GBTA) in support of the upcoming Korea National Assembly President’s Cup U.S. Taekwondo Championship on November 7, 2026.

For decades, the GBTA has played an integral role in the continued development, promotion, and advancement of Taekwondo in Korea, and we are grateful for their continued support and friendship with Blue Dragon Taekwondo Academy.

CORRECTION — Eligible Divisions for the $13,500 CASH PRIZE at the KNA President’s Cup include the following:

Demo Team (must have at least 4 teams in division)
Individual Sport Poomsae Cadet 12-14 (male & female)
Individual Sport Poomsae Junior 15-17 (male & female)
Individual Olympic Sparring Cadet 12-14 (male & female)
Individual Olympic Sparring Junior 15-17 (male & female)

Individual competitions MUST have at least 8 athletes in a division to be eligible for the cash prize.

EACH winner will receive a $1,500 check upon the determination of the referee committee.

For more than 37 years, Blue Dragon Taekwondo Academy USA has served athletes, families, and communities throughout the Bay Area through martial arts training and competition. Founded in 1989 by a small family of Vietnamese immigrants, Blue Dragon was built on the belief that Taekwondo is more than a martial art or sport:

It is a way of life.

The Korea National Assembly President’s Cup U.S. Taekwondo Championship represents the next chapter of that mission.

The Korea National Assembly is the legislative body of the Republic of Korea, comparable to the United States Congress, which legislated taekwondo as Korea’s National Sport. Through the Korea National Assembly Taekwondo Federation, there is a broader mission to promote Taekwondo to more countries and communities around the world.

This will be the first major Korea National Assembly Taekwondo Federation event of its kind in the United States, under the direction of Grandmaster Thac Nguyen, U.S. Headquarters President. The event is led by Chairman Lee D**g Sup, former Kukkiwon President, and President Kyung-won Na, a member of the Korean National Assembly.

With $13,500 in total cash prizes, this event is an opportunity to recognize athletes for their dedication while giving competitors and schools a chance to challenge themselves, build relationships, and finish the competition year strong.

Our mission is to provide a clean, fair, efficient, and accessible competition while promoting Taekwondo as a way to build character, promote peace, strengthen communities, and develop leaders who lead by example.

As an organization founded by immigrants, we understand the importance of opportunity. We want to create those opportunities for the next generation — giving athletes a platform to excel, discover their potential, and soar to new heights.

We invite athletes, coaches, instructors, schools, and families from around the world to join us in San Jose this November.

Thank you to all of our students who participated in our Olympics last weekend! We hope everyone walked away with new lessons, valuable experience, and even more motivation to keep training and improving.

A special thank you to our Black Belt Candidates and Black Belts who stepped up to help referee and make the competition possible.

To everyone who continues to train: keep showing up, keep learning, and keep pushing forward. Every competition is another step in your journey.

2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang - Kukkiwon Headquarters, Seoul, South Korea | August 1-5th

Congratulations to our very own Masters Tyler, Derek, and Caitlin Nguyen for their hard work and success at the 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang earlier this month!

With only three days of intense training, they were able to capture 2 gold & 2 silver medals in both Self-Defense (Hoshin-sul) & Recognized Forms (Poomsae), which goes to show that years of practice and competition make all the difference, especially on the world stage.

We are truly honored and thankful to President Eun Seob Kim, Master Eunjung Kim, Chief Instructor Jiseok Lee and all the masters at the World Taekwondo Defense Federation for training our three masters and treating them like family during their time in Korea. Your skills and wisdom are unmatched & your time — invaluable.

Thank you to all the Kukkiwon officials, staff, volunteers, and organizers for hosting this amazing event!
