CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT - SUMMER SEASON '26 SUSPENDED

It is with deep disappointment that we announce the suspension of our 2026 Summer Season.

For several years, we have worked to provide meaningful opportunities for players through quality coaching, competitive experiences, and a welcoming field hockey community.

Unfortunately, declining participation (most significantly in local high schools) and rising operating costs have created challenges that can no longer be ignored. Despite the continued support of dedicated families and significant efforts to grow the game, registration numbers have fallen below the level required for the season to proceed.

Cheeseburners has worked tirelessly to introduce new athletes to the sport and create opportunities for existing players. However, those efforts have ultimately served as a temporary solution to a much larger issue facing the sport in our area.

To keep programming available, we have adapted formats, reduced costs where possible, and absorbed financial risk [for several seasons]. Some programs have operated at a loss, while others have barely broken even. We have been willing to make those sacrifices in support of our athletes and the wider field hockey community, but doing so is no longer sustainable (believe me when I tell you that we have left no rock unturned).

As a result, we must take an honest look at the future of the club. Based on current trends, there is a significant possibility that we will be unable to offer a 2026 Fall Season. While no final decision has been made, the future of Cheeseburners is under review, and the possibility of the club ceasing operations can no longer be overlooked.

**To our athletes, families, coaches, alumni, and supporters, thank you for your commitment and belief in what we have built together. We are proud of the opportunities Cheeseburners has provided and the impact the club has had on so many athletes. Further updates will be shared as decisions regarding the future of the club are made.

Selected from a nationwide pool of talented athletes, Blythe earned her place among the top U14 players in the country. This prestigious invitation recognizes the dedication, commitment, and skill she has demonstrated throughout her development journey, and now provides an opportunity to compete against the very best young field hockey players in the United States.

We are incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see you represent Wisconsin and the Cheeseburners on the national stage.

We'll continue to monitor throughout the day and confirm whether practice will go ahead or not by 2pm. If canceled, and based on timing, there will be no other options for a make-up session 😞.

🔥🏑 Huge congratulations to Cheeseburners athletes Blythe A, Maddie B, and Naomi L on earning selection to the USA Field Hockey NEXUS Super Regionals!

Blythe will compete at the U14 level, while Naomi heads into U18 action as they travel to Maryland Heights, Missouri next weekend proudly representing the Badger State. 🧀🔥

They’ll be challenged by athletes from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas at their respective age levels — an incredible achievement and opportunity to test themselves against the region’s best.

Cheeseburners Field Hockey is fired up to unveil our coaching lineup for the 2026 Spring Season—this is a group built to bring energy, experience, and serious momentum:

Coach Degsy steps back into a more hands-on role, leading all club programs and working closely with our U16/19/Adult groups. We’re pumped to welcome back standout leaders Katie Q (Concordia University-WI Captain [SR]) and Parks (Concordia University-WI [JR] & Canadian National Team goalkeeper), and just as excited to add Leah (Concordia University-WI Captain [JR]) and Maddie (Concordia University-WI Forward [JR])—a dynamic duo ready to raise the level across the club.

Don't forget, we open our spring campaign this coming Thursday (04/23) at Uihlein Soccer Park. The SSPS will be all go as our three groups practice concurrently on the massive field:

U8/10 - 5:30-6:30pm
U12/14 - 5:30-7pm
U16/19/Adults - 5:30-7pm
