Ummah Wrestling Club

I’ve been coaching youth wrestling as a certified wrestling coach since I was 16/17 years old. Mind you, I started wrestling as a freshman in hs. I never used to track how many accomplished wrestlers I’ve coached. But in November 2022, Ummah Wrestling Club started with all first year wrestlers.

By February 2023:
• 10 youth state qualifiers
• 3 state placers
• multiple wrestlers only points away from placing

Then shortly after that season, we lost the original practice location due to a series of unfortunate events and the program had to temporarily stop.

2024:
We had a returning 4th state placer

We decided to continue to move forward despite the pause.

Not because wrestling needs another team.

But because Milwaukee youth need more structure, mentorship, emotional regulation, and decision making skills in constructive environments.

👋🏾Over 20 years in wrestling.
High-level competition experience.
Certified USA Wrestling coach.
State qualifiers developed.

But the real value isn’t just the achievements.

It’s how I coach:

•discipline
•accountability
•emotional regulation
•decision making

Wrestling is just the tool I use to develop that in youth.

Today was a mat tournament, I wrestled up 2 weight classes. I was the lightest and the eldest in my bracket. First time back since 2016 💪🏾

No takedowns allowed, only mat wrestling.

Still made the finals. 🥈

I realized today, as a coach I’ll always step on the mat to compete until my body is not able to. I love it too much, even if I didn’t take first place my body won’t let me give up on competing.

I didn’t record my matches cuz I thought the tournament managers were recording the matches.
