The shuttle run is a great example of an anaerobic exercise for soccer players that can be done with or without a ball at your feet. It is high-intensity for short periods of time with limited rest. Sprint to and back from each cone once to complete one set. The full workout without a ball is 10 sets of shuttles, each being completed in 35 seconds with 25 seconds rest (an extra 20 seconds rest can be added after sets 3, 6, and 8). Give it a try!

The length of the sprint is 100 yards for male athletes, or 100 large strides for female athletes. Each sprint begins at the minute mark and the recovery time is a slower run back to the start line. The level achieved on the test is the last sprint completed within the allotted sprint time.
