⚓ First ASA 118 Docking Endorsement Course of the Season!

Today marks the first ASA 118 Docking Endorsement course of the season aboard Calypso, and our students arrived early, eager to get on the water and start building their skills.

Docking is one of the most valuable skills a sailor can learn. From line handling and communication to maneuvering in tight spaces, today's class is focused on building the confidence needed to bring a boat safely into the dock.

It's also Calypso's first class of the season, making it a special day all around!

Fair winds to today's students as they spend the day practicing one of sailing's most important skills. ⛵

Capt. Don and his crew sailed through the night and arrived at Milwaukee’s South Shore Yacht Club at 1600 hours—an hour ahead of schedule! ⛵🎉

Despite a cold night on the water, the crew made it back safely with another great adventure to add to the story.

A well-earned stop at Palomino afterward helped celebrate a successful voyage home. 🍻⚓

Huge thanks to Capt. Don for leading the way, and to crew members Sam, Kim, and Josh for their hard work, teamwork, and dedication in getting Calypso home safe and sound. 🙌💙

What an incredible finish to an unforgettable journey. Welcome home, Calypso! 🏡⛵❤️

Step 5: Sunrise on the Journey Home 🌅

After departing Sturgeon Bay around 9:00 PM, Captain Don and crew spent the night making their way south toward Milwaukee.

This morning brought a spectacular Lake Michigan sunrise as Calypso continued her journey home under a mix of sail and power. 🌅⛵

By the time you see this, she may already be approaching her new home at South Shore Yacht Club.

Step 4: Under Her Own Power Again ⛵

With the launch complete, Calypso motored away from the Travelift and back into open water.

Fuel, water, final preparations... and then it would be time for the overnight journey south to Milwaukee. 🌊⚓

Step 3: Splashdown! Calypso Returns to Lake Michigan ⚓

She's back where she belongs! ⚓

Watching Calypso settle back into Lake Michigan was one of the highlights of the day.

After weeks of waiting for launch season to finally arrive, this moment made it all worthwhile. ⛵🌊

Step 2: Lowering Calypso Toward Lake Michigan 🌊

With Calypso safely in the Travelift, it was time to begin lowering her toward the water.

After a colder-than-normal spring delayed launch schedules by nearly a month, this was a sight we'd been waiting to see. 🌊⛵

Step 1: Calypso Leaves Her Winter Home ⛵

After two seasons in Door County, it was finally time to bring Calypso home to Milwaukee.

The first step? Lifting our 41-foot Jeanneau 409 from her winter stands and preparing her for launch.

Stay tuned as we share the journey! ⛵

After two seasons in Door County, Calypso is finally making her way home to Milwaukee! ⛵🎉

We had originally planned to bring her south at the beginning of May, but a colder-than-normal spring delayed launch schedules throughout the area. Yesterday was finally the day we'd been waiting for. 🙌

The day started with an early drive to Sturgeon Bay, as Angie transported Captain Don and crew: Sam, Kim, and Josh, north to meet Calypso for the journey home. We arrived expecting a mid-morning launch, but as often happens in boating, the schedule had other ideas. 😄

When we arrived, Calypso was still blocked in by several larger boats that needed to be moved first. Rather than spending hours staring at the boatyard, the crew took the opportunity to explore a little of Door County, including Fish Creek and a stop at Wilson's for one of their famous root beer floats. 🍺🍦

Back at the yard, the waiting continued, but so did the preparation. The dinghy was inflated and launched, fenders were set out, gear was organized, and the crew got everything ready for departure.

Finally, around 4:30 PM, it was Calypso's turn. 🎉

Watching a 41-foot sailboat lifted from her stands, carried across the yard, and lowered back into Lake Michigan never gets old. ⚓

After fueling up, topping off the water tanks, and making final preparations, Don, Sam, Kim, and Josh departed Sturgeon Bay around 9:00 PM for the overnight journey south. Meanwhile, Angie made the drive back to Milwaukee while the crew pointed Calypso toward her new home. 🌅

This morning brought a beautiful Lake Michigan sunrise as Calypso continued toward Milwaukee under a mix of sail and power. ⛵☀️

Once she arrives, Calypso will call South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee home. While she'll certainly be used for some personal adventures, she'll also serve as the classroom and floating home for several of our advanced sailing experiences, including our popular Learn to Sail Vacations, where students earn certifications while living aboard and exploring Lake Michigan.

If all goes according to plan, we're excited to have Calypso arrive at her new home later today! 🎉⛵
