My body was telling me lies and by NOT listening I got in a great workout.

What if after 5 minutes you are still not feeling good?

It means your body is giving you good signals. Choose self care like a nap, nourishing food or a gentle walk in nature. What’s your go to self care?

You can’t lose… either you get in the workout and feel good or you gave it a go and honored what you need today and feel good.

Save this to remind yourself the next time you’re feeling a bit off.

A little story about inspiration for your Monday Motivation and Mindset…

I begged my parents to join a winter swim club when I was eight years old because I loved swimming so much and I wanted to do it more.

That’s where I met Larry Mott. Seeing him this weekend brought back lots of good memories and reminded me of what it means to be a good coach.

He was far more intense than my summer swim coach. Looking up at him from the pool made him seem like a giant. And even bigger was his booming voice that you could hear repeating “MOVE!“ even under the water.

The lessons I learned over 40 years ago, shaped my life as an athlete and a coach, both in and out of the water.

The one that stuck with me most over the years: “If you false start, it better be a good dive.” Eight year-old Adina thought we weren’t supposed to look stupid just falling in the water.

Grown up Adina found a deeper meaning: being your personal best happens at the edge of failure, just like a false start. You have to be ready for the timing to be right. You only fall in the water if you’re holding back.

That’s what it means to be inspired. Taking what you see or hear and doing something with it. That is my goal for you. I want to inspire you to go for that dive. You never know when that timing will be right.

Riding your bike on the road can feel scary with so many cars and increasingly distracted motorists.

Skipping a planned workout for safety is not giving up.

This is a conversation I have with the athletes I coach on a regular basis.

We are constantly reflecting, discussing and evaluating the safety of taking workouts outside and balancing rest with performance.

There is no single right answer.

There are times when you push your limits and times when it’s just not worth it.

Only you can decide what is within your means on any given day. A coach or teammate can be a good sounding board.

Skipping this swim was not an easy choice for me, but it was the right one.

Staying safe isn’t wimpy, it’s smart.
