The Kobukan Dojo has big news: As of January 2024, we have officially adopted a new name: Aikido Byōdōkai Community of Minnesota! While our name and our page is new, what has not changed is our dedication to teaching precise technique rooted in the philosophy and values of aikido.
Our instruction and training will be supported by our membership in the new multi-state Aikido Byōdōkai Community. This new umbrella organization is a nonprofit formed to support the skilled and responsible practice of Aikido through high quality instructor training, meaningful testing standards, and training experiences that are inclusive, respectful and safe.
Our students are already busy learning this year’s kyu techniques, organized by the Aikido Byōdōkai Community. We are especially excited to be hosting clinics with visiting instructors this March. Please follow us at our new page Aikido Byōdōkai Community of Minnesota and watch for updates and news as we enter this new era in Aikido training at the Kobukan Dojo!

Aikido is Budo, a non-competitive art based on the philosophy and martial arts of the Japanese Samurai. It is an excellent fitness activity, effective self-defense, and a way of improving our relationships with others. Aikido helps to teach us not to defeat others, but to learn to control ourselves.
We are located at the Waterbury Building in NE Minneapolis, which has plenty of free parking and is on the bus line.
