Arizona has a new national park! Say hello to Chiricahua National Park, formerly Chiricahua National Monument, officially designated on October 20, 2026. It’s now the 64th national park in the United States! 🇺🇸

Located in southeastern Arizona, Chiricahua is famous for its incredible “Wonderland of Rocks” — towering volcanic rock spires, balanced boulders, winding hiking trails, and breathtaking desert mountain scenery.

Long before Haleakalā became a national park, it was a place of deep importance to the Hawaiian people. The summit was considered part of wao akua, the realm of the gods, and was used for ceremonies, pilgrimage, navigation, and gathering resources. Ancient trails also crossed the mountain, connecting communities on different sides of Maui.

By the late 1800s, Haleakalā had begun attracting visitors, ranchers, and adventurers. Haleakalā Ranch was established in 1888, and cattle were grazed in the crater for decades. In 1916, Haleakalā became part of Hawaiʻi National Park. A road to the summit was completed in 1935, opening the mountain to a much larger number of visitors. In 1961, the Maui portion became its own national park: Haleakalā National Park.

Today, the park protects not only an extraordinary volcanic landscape, but also archaeological sites, rare native species, and a living Hawaiian cultural heritage that stretches back centuries.

Haleakalā is more than a place to watch the sunrise. It is a landscape with a history—and one worth taking the time to learn.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the members of our military who answered the call, and the families whose lives were changed forever. We also remember the unity, courage, and compassion that brought Americans together in the days that followed. From all of us at Tradition Creek, we honor their memory and remain grateful to those who continue to serve and protect our communities and our nation. 🇺🇸
