Connie Carpenter-Phinney was born February 26, 1957, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Carpenter-Phinney is a former speed skater and cyclist who became one of the most versatile female athletes of her era. She competed in speed skating at the 1972 Winter Olympics before transitioning to cycling, where she won the gold medal in the women’s road race at the 1984 Summer Olympics — the first time the event was held for women.

Her achievements helped pave the way for women’s cycling on the world stage.

The Cycling Museum of MN had it’s first BYOB “bring your old bike” event for a few years and it was a lot of fun. The Trailhead was a perfect location, and we had a good turn out with some remarkable bikes and people. After great conversations between new friends, voting on favorites, and giving out some ribbons to winners, we climbed on our machines for a ride through the parkland to the local brewery. We are already planning the next BYOB for the spring of 26. Thank you to all attendees and donors. Please remember us with the upcoming Give To The Max.
