Most kids are carrying too much.

Keep the packed backpack at or under 10% of your child's body weight. A 60 pound kid should carry no more than 6 pounds. An 80 pound kid, no more than 8.

Weigh it on a Wednesday, not a Monday. Monday bags are light. By midweek the folders, water bottles, gym clothes, and library books have piled up, and that is the real load your child carries.

🤩

Well isn't this fun news. We now provide Mental Health Counseling.

That said, meet Shelly Carbo, LCSW. 🧡

Shelly is the mental health counselor at Prairie Grit Therapy.

She earned her Master of Social Work from Arizona State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her approach is strengths-based and family-centered, built around resilience and healthy coping skills. Shelly creates a safe, supportive environment where clients work through challenges and reach meaningful goals.

She provides individual counseling, family therapy, and couples therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Outside the office, Shelly cheers on her kids at their sporting events, watches Minotauros hockey, and makes memories with the people she loves.

Welcome to the team, Shelly.
