I cannot believe that it is October already. That means it’s almost been 3 years since my soul dog passed away. Almost 3 years since I lost the girl who was so much more than a dog to me. Bailey was my soul, my comfort, my constant, my OG, & one of the greatest loves of my life. There hasn’t been a single day since losing her that I haven’t thought about her. Not one. Her presence filled my life in a way I can’t fully explain & when she left it felt like she took a huge piece of my heart with her. A piece I will never get back 💔🪽My B girl knows how much I still miss her. She knows how deeply my heart still hurts ❤️🩹 Some of you may not believe that our passed loved ones can send us signs & some of you may. But I am a believer. I believe the people & animals we love never truly leave us. I believe they find little ways to remind us that they are still near, still watching over us, & still loving us from wherever they are 🪽🕊️ Yesterday while the B’s we’re demanding fetch outside, I was filling some bags with corn when out of the corner of my eye I noticed something light green & fuzzy underneath the pine needles & tall grass. I stopped 🛑 I looked closer 👀 & immediately I knew what it was. It was a piece of felt from a tennis ball 🎾 The only dog who ever completely removed the fuzzy felt from tennis balls was Bailey. Nobody else did that. Just my B girl 🥹💜🪽& this piece had clearly been there for a long time. It wasn’t something new. It wasn’t something that had just been dropped. In my heart I knew it had to be hers. But what made finding it even more emotional was where I found it. It was in the exact spot where I had originally planned to take the B’s Halloween picture in 2023 🎃 But at the very last second I changed my mind & decided to take the B’s picture somewhere else with the coulee in the background. Less than a minute later though my entire world changed forever. I still think about that moment all the time. I don’t know what happened to Bailey. I don’t know why she suddenly collapsed & was gone in what felt like the snap of a finger. Even her necropsy gave us no answers. Everything looked good. So one of the hardest part out of all of this you may ask? I never got to say goodbye. I never knew that the last time I looked at her would be the last time I would ever see my girl alive. I never knew that I should have hugged her a little longer, kissed her one more time, or told her I loved her one more time. There was no warning, no time to prepare my heart, no goodbye. Just one moment she was here & then she was gone. & sometimes I wonder “What if I had stayed in that first spot?” Would she have passed away there instead? Would I have been standing somewhere else when it happened? Would anything have been different? I will never know. That is one of the hardest parts of losing her so suddenly. There are so many unanswered questions that I will carry with me forever 💔 So when I found that tiny piece of tennis ball felt yesterday in that exact spot, my heart immediately whispered “Hi, B.” 🥹💜 Maybe it was nothing more than an old piece of a tennis ball that had been hidden beneath the grass & pine needles for years. But maybe it was my girl finding a way to remind me of that place. Maybe it was her way of saying “Momma, I remember.” & I truly believe it was a little sign from my girl 🪽🕊️& then today something else happened. The B’s & I were getting ready to walk out our side door when I noticed a rainbow reflection on the wall. It stretched right across the dogs 🌈 The small window in that room has never reflected off the stickers on my fridge in a way that creates a rainbow like that. I have never seen it happen before. But today I did. & once again my heart immediately thought of Bailey 🥹💜🪽 Maybe some people will call these coincidences or maybe there is another explanation for both of them. But I don’t need anyone else to believe what I believe. I know what my heart felt. I believe my girl was reminding me that she is still here. That she’s still loving me, still watching over me, & still finding little ways to reach me when I need her most. Just two little moments & two little reminders during a month that hurts more than I can put into words. I am choosing to see them as gifts from my B girl 🥹💜🪽🕊️🌈 I miss you every single day Bailey. I know so many other people miss you too. You made such a pawsitive influence on every single person you met. You had a way of leaving a little piece of your heart with everyone who crossed your path 💜 Your life may have been far too short but the impact you made will last forever. Almost 3 years later you are still loved, still missed, still talked about, & still remembered. Thank you for reminding me that you are never really that far away.
