The Great Lakes Canes 12U battled through a full tournament weekend filled with tough competition, big innings, and a strong bounce-back effort that carried them all the way to the championship game.
The weekend opened with a tough matchup against 11U FCA FINS Indiana - NE, where the Canes came up short, 8-0. Even in the loss, Elle H. battled in the circle, striking out six, while Elle H., Madison, and Kaylee each collected hits for the Canes.
The team responded in a big way in their next game, defeating Flash 12U, 15-12, in a high-scoring battle. The Canes’ bats came alive with 14 total hits, led by Nora, Elle H., Khloe, and Kinley, who each collected two hits. Nora and Khloe each drove in two runs, while Elle H. earned the win in the circle and stole three bases to help spark the offense.
The Canes kept the momentum going with a strong 9-0 win over Aces - Fulton 12U. Jasmine came through with a huge performance, driving in four runs, including a three-run triple in the first inning. Ellie W. earned the win, allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings while striking out six.
In another matchup against Aces - Fulton 12U, the Canes stayed hot offensively and came away with a 14-5 victory. Nora led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, while Biggie also collected three hits. The team piled up 17 hits, with Mackenzie, Elle H., and Jasmine also adding multiple-hit games. Elle H. earned the win, and Ellie W. recorded the save.
The Canes’ run came to an end in the championship game against 11U FCA FINS Indiana - NE, falling 6-2. The Canes battled and collected 10 hits, with Nora and Kinley each recording two hits. Khloe and Kinley each drove in a run, and Elle H. once again worked hard in the circle.
Overall, it was a strong weekend for the Great Lakes Canes 12U. After an early loss, the team bounced back with three straight wins to reach the championship game — for the first time!
The Canes showed grit, offensive power, and resilience throughout the tournament, finishing as Championship Runner-Up.
