Our final inductee into the SAHF Class of 2026 is The Spartan Volleyball Dynasty of the late 80’s…. the teams of 1985-1988:

These Spartan teams won four consecutive state volleyball championships in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988. This was the first 4-peat in MT state volleyball history, and they are the only AA volleyball program to accomplish this feat to date. During those 4 years, they had 2 undefeated seasons, an incredible amount of wins and only 11 total losses. The ‘85-‘87 seasons were coached by Pat Benson and the ‘88 season was coached by Debbie Thompson. Several of these team members went on to outstanding collegiate volleyball careers or collegiate careers in other sports.

Today’s highlighted athletes are the first ever DUO to go into the SAHF! Please welcome a pair of legendary Spartan swimmers…..

- Major Robinson (‘08) and
Kasey Robinson Anderson (‘10) -

This brother-sister duo are the most decorated siblings in Spartan swimming history. Between the 2 of them, they have 12 individual state swim titles. Major won a total of 6 state titles over his four years in the 100 backstroke, 200 IM and 200 free, along with several runner-up titles. Most notably, he won the 100 back all four years in high school and set several school records. He was a high school All-American and qualified for USA swimming nationals. He went on to be an All-Mountain West swimmer and Academic All-Conference at the University of Utah. He also participated in the Olympic Team Trials in 2012. Not to be outdone, Kasey also won 6 state titles in her four years as a Spartan in the 200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay, along with several runner-up titles. She set the state record in the 200 free in 2008 along with several Sentinel swim records. As a team, the Sentinel girls brought home silver from the state meets in 2008-2010. She went on to a collegiate swimming career, where she was All-Mountain West at the University of Wyoming and helped set a school record in the 800 free relay.

Today’s SAHF class of 2026 highlighted athlete:

- Rylan Ortt, football and track & field, class of 2019 -

Rylan was a letter winner in 3 sports at Sentinel High School, excelling in football, basketball, and most notably track and field. Rylan was an all-state quarterback for the Spartans, throwing and rushing for a combined 2,836 yards and 32 touchdowns his senior year, and lighting the spark for the program that would lead to state titles the following 2 seasons. He won an individual state championship in the javelin his senior year, setting a school record of 208’ 8” in soggy conditions, and was a member of the Spartan state championship boys track and field team that same year. His throw placed him in the top 5 nationally for the javelin that year. He capped that outstanding track and field season by being named the Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year in 2019. He went on to have an outstanding football career as a strong safety at Montana State, where he led the team in tackles in 2024 and was named 1st team All-Big Sky Conference.

SAHF Class of 2026, today’s highlighted athlete:

- Laurie Holm Johnson, track and cross country, class of 1979 -

Laurie is one of the most decorated runners in Sentinel and Montana history. She won two individual state titles in cross country and a total of 6 state titles in track, where she set school records in the 1 mile, 2 mile, and 880 yd. She also set state records in the 1 mile and 2 mile. She was the first female in MT history to run a sub-5 minute mile and a sub-11 minute 2 mile. She placed at AAU Nationals in both XC and the mile run. After her All-American career for Sentinel, she went on to run XC/track for Montana State and the University of MT, and even qualified for the Boston Marathon. She continued her love of running by coaching high school track and XC and was named MT Boys XC Coach of the year in 1995 and 1996.

Spartan Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026 highlighted athlete of the day:

- Jeremy Brown, soccer, class of 1994 -

Jeremy was instrumental in putting Spartan boys soccer on the map. High school soccer in MT began during Jeremy’s sophomore year, and he wasted no time in getting Sentinel their hardware. He helped lead the Spartans to state championships in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Jeremy was an All-State forward for the Spartans, where he scored 38 career goals. He went on to play collegiate soccer at Seattle University, where they finished an undefeated season with a national championship in 1997. Jeremy is currently the president for The Montana Youth Soccer Association.

We are excited to welcome the Spartan Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026 this September! The SAHF is partnering with the SHS Booster Club to honor our inductees at the Spartan Legacy banquet during homecoming week 2026. Sparty on!!
