In memory of Dylan Mackenzie Havrilak 🤍

This Friday, September 25th, from 6–7 p.m., we’ll gather at Hot House Yoga for a memorial yoga class in honor of Dylan.

Dylan was deeply loved and cherished in our community, and with his mother and sister in town this weekend, we want to make sure they feel just how much Dylan meant to the people of Missoula.

This class is free and open to the public. We ask that folks who knew and loved Dylan please RSVP first so we can make sure there is space for those closest to him. Once those RSVPs are in, anyone from Missoula’s many yoga communities is warmly welcome to join us and flow in Dylan’s memory and honor.

No matter where you practice, there is room to come together here.

Hey everyone. 🤎

We’re really grateful for the community that continues to show up, practice, and hold space with us at Hot House.

As our community grows and changes, we’re putting a few clear, ongoing studio guidelines in place around how we share the practice space and support one another in our own practice.

You’ll start seeing some new signage around the studio, and teachers will make a few reminders at the beginning of class over the next couple of weeks. Nothing complicated. Just a little more clarity around phones, filming, conversation, quiet time, and giving everyone the space they need to arrive, practice, breathe, and be present.

And just to be clear: we absolutely love seeing what you’re doing outside the studio. If you tag us in your stories or posts from your practice, life, events, or time in the community, please keep tagging us. We’re always happy to repost and share what you’re up to.

You may also see stories from Mad Biggs on our page. Mad is currently working with us through an influencer trade collaboration. If you’re interested in doing something similar, please reach out. We’d love to bring on at least two more community members for this kind of exchange.

We’re grateful for everyone who helps make Hot House what it is. These guidelines are simply about caring for the space and for one another.

Thanks for showing up. Thanks for practicing with us. And thanks for helping us make room for everyone.

Love, Jenn & the Hot House crew 🤎

MEET JENN HOOVER 🤍

Owner of Hot House Yoga for the past 16 years, Jenn has been the lifeblood of this studio and the person who has kept this little community going, growing, and practicing for all these years.

Jenn first found yoga at a gym, and eight years later, she took her first Bikram class and was hooked. More than 20 years into her practice, her love and curiosity for yoga continue to grow. Yoga has supported her ongoing mental, physical, emotional, and energetic growth and healing, and her practice continues to evolve right along with her.

Her favorite pose? Triangle. Basic, but with so much to offer: strength, stability, balance, and openness.

Something you might not know about Jenn? She finds a whole lot of joy in taking ballet. 🩰

Her get-moving soundtrack? Billie Eilish.

Her perfect day off? Anything active. Rain or snow, she wants to be outside and moving, especially when the sun is out.

And one word for her practice right now? Modified.

As a staff, we know Jenn as generous, kind, curious, and deeply committed to creating opportunities for teachers to connect, learn, grow, and engage. We’re grateful for the programs she’s created within this space, not only to support teachers in their work, but to make yoga accessible to people throughout our community.

Sixteen years of Hot House. Almost 30 years of practice and a whole lot of heart behind both.

We love you, Jenn. And we’re so grateful for everything you’ve built. 🖤

The fall equinox is here. A shift in season, a moment of balance, and a good reminder that our practice is always changing, too.

In yoga, we’re invited to pay attention. To study ourselves. To practice ahimsa. To notice where we’re holding too tightly and where we might make a little more room.

So this season, maybe it’s less about doing something perfectly and more about coming back to the basics:

🌿 Notice what’s changing.
🌿 Find balance between effort and ease.
🌿 Listen to your body and practice with care.

The seasons change. We change with them.

See you on the mat. 🖤

MEET MANDELA LEOLA VAN EEDEN 🖤

21 years of Ashtanga practice, a life shaped by rivers and adventure, and a deep belief that the practice doesn’t end when we leave the mat.

Mandela brings a steady, focused presence to the Hot House, but don’t let the serious Ashtanga face fool you. She’s also a total goofball, believes laughter is medicine, and will send you out of savasana with the sound of a didgeridoo.

Her favorite pose? Savasana. Obviously. ✨

When she’s not teaching, she’s most at home running whitewater, riding bikes, chasing adventure, or spending time with the people she loves. These days, she’s also learning the art of slowing down.

We’re lucky to have her in our Hot House community.

Come practice with Mandela and see where the magic happens.

Yoga has never been about the aesthetic for us, it’s about creating a space where you can feel at home, exactly as you are, while we keep building, growing, and making this place more ours together.

Thank you all for your patience in this process, and for showing up.

Love,
Jenn & The Hot House Team

Meet Ashley Quas. 🌀 Ashley came to yoga through dance and a lifelong curiosity about movement, consciousness, and the bigger questions of being human. What started as another way to explore movement became a practice of learning how to pay attention, listen to her body, and make room for all the parts of herself that once felt like “too much.”

Her classes are curious, challenging, creative, and a little unconventional. Expect good music, playful movement, active mobility, and plenty of opportunities to get curious about what’s actually happening in your body.

Her philosophy is simple: you don’t have to make yourself smaller here. There’s room for your energy, your questions, your modifications, your weirdness, your rest, and whatever version of you shows up that day.

Ashley has called Hot House home long before she became one of our teachers, and we’re so grateful she’s now sharing that sense of home with our community.

One word for her practice: curious.
Current mantra: leave room to be surprised.
Favorite pose: crow.
And yes, she swears more than you’d probably expect from a yoga teacher. 😉

Come practice with Ashley and see what you notice.

MEET THE TEACHER: ERIN ANDERSON

Erin found yoga when she was about 20, in an undergraduate Bikram class, where she mostly did downward dogs and completely tuned out the teacher. She didn’t really return to yoga until around 2010, when her sister started practicing hot yoga.

At the time, Erin had been struggling with her relationship to her body for years. What she didn’t know then was that yoga would eventually become part of how she healed that relationship.

Today, yoga is her safe space. A place to come back to center, quiet the inner critic, practice accountability and discernment, and connect with herself.

Her teaching weaves vinyasa, yin, self-myofascial release, and social justice. Her classes are meant to be challenging and nurturing, with space for every body to find their own practice.

Her message to students?

This is your practice. Everybody’s welcome here.

Outside the studio, Erin runs Eadem Arbor, a wellness and communication strategy company rooted in creating more connected, thoughtful ways for people to work, gather, and care for one another. She’s also worked alongside some incredible change-makers, artists, and leaders and is the author of The Wild Truth: A Collection of Poems About S*x & Love.

Her mantra: Peace by any means necessary.

We’re grateful to have her with us at Hot House.

Meet Crystal Ayala.

Crystal found yoga more than 23 years ago, when she took her first class as a college credit at 20 years old. What started as a class became a practice that has stayed with her ever since.

These days, Crystal is bringing that practice into a new chapter. She’s building her real estate career here in Missoula after 19 years as an agent in Washington, while continuing to teach and be part of the Hot House community.

Her current practice? Intense. Her soundtrack? ’90s rap and hip-hop. Her favorite kind of joy? Laughing with her kids.

She says what she loves most about Hot House is the people: the students and the wonderful, loving, supportive instructors who make this community what it is.

There’s more to Crystal than we can fit here. Come take her class, meet her in person, and get to know the teacher behind the practice.

We’re really grateful to have Crystal with us here at the studio.

Today, we’re getting to know Kelsey Austin a little better. 🖤

Yoga has been part of Kelsey’s life since she was a kid, when she’d practice here and there alongside her mom at home. It wasn’t until college that it really became a regular part of her life.

When Kelsey went through teacher training, teaching wasn’t the goal. She wanted to go deeper. Into the philosophy, the history, the practices beyond asana, and what happens when yoga starts to actually show up in your everyday life. She took her time with that. She didn’t start teaching until she felt ready to share what she’d been learning with her community.

That’s still at the heart of her classes. A place to learn, relax, get present, and maybe get curious enough to look beyond the shapes we make with our bodies and into the much bigger practice of yoga.

She’s also in her second year of law school, considers coffee a necessity and tea a treat, loves a little bluegrass, calls the mountains home, and has a serious piece of her heart reserved for the ocean.

And right now? She and Camel are figuring some things out. 🐪

Kelsey had gotten to a place in Ustrasana that felt energizing and expansive, and then her body started giving her some very different information. So she’s exploring how to find that same sense of lift without needing to go quite so deep. Because sometimes the practice is less about getting somewhere and more about listening when the body asks us to change course.

We’re really glad Kelsey is part of Hot House. She’s been practicing here for years, and now we get to have her teaching here, too.

Go find her on the schedule. Come practice with her. Get to know Kelsey. 🖤
