Missoula Fire Combat Challenge Team
Firefighter Combat Challenge
The Missoula Fire Department has been competing in the Firefighter Combat Challenge since 1994.
A combined Missoula Fire Department and Missoula Rural Fire District team won the world championship in 1997 and Missoula Fire won the team title again in 2001 - that team time (4:19.33) still stands as the current World Record. (World Records can only be set during the world championships.) With the support of the Missoula community, our Department hosted regional competitions in 1997 and 1998.

General information
The Firefighter Combat Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public.
Wearing full bunker gear and breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks including climbing a five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses, and rescuing a life-sized, 175 pound victim as they race against themselves, their opponent, and the clock.
