This is one of the most important moments in youth sports.

This is NOT the time for critique and reflection.

Instead of leading with evaluation…try this (at EVERY age):

👉 “Did you have fun?”👉 “What was your favorite part?”👉 “Did you feel confident?”

Sometimes, the best thing you can do…is simply let them talk when they’re ready.

When we change the questions, we change the focus.

When we change the focus, we change the experience.

And when we change the experience…we keep kids in sports longer.

Athletic development isn’t just about drills, programs, and performance.

It’s about the environment we create, the standards we reinforce, and the conversations we have every single day with our athletes.

Training young kids (6-8) can be challenging! Their ability to focus and process instruction is limited. This is what we do to help keep them engaged:

⚾️ Turn everything into a game or challenge.

⚾️ Use imagination and competition.

⚾️ Keep cues to 1 simple focus at a time.

⚾️ Celebrate effort more than outcome.

⚾️ Address the negative but ALWAYS find the positives.

⚾️ End each session on a great rep to build confidence and keep them motivated.

For those that don’t know, The Dirt Show is open and already helping kids develop their baseball skills, knowledge, and mentality.

We are passionate about baseball, but The Dirt Show is about more than baseball. We use fun baseball development as a conduit to train integrity, grit, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Ultimately, we want every kid that we work with to be successful with whatever their goals are in baseball, but more importantly, to be more equipped to be successful the rest of their lives with any of their endeavors.

Our vision is not just to coach Little League baseball players, but rather the next generation of coaches and community leaders.
