Day 2 of telling our story in pictures.

Owen has always known he wanted to be a dirt driver.

When we got into quarter midgets, we fully intended to race dirt QMs at Skagit. Tyler worked with a guy whose kids raced there, and he suggested we go through WQMA's training program first since it was more in-depth and O was only 4.

The plan was to finish training and head to Skagit.

But our novice trainer was like, "Nah, you aren't leaving." 😂

And somehow we got sucked into 7 seasons of asphalt QMs.

But O still had that dirt itch, so we just did both. 🫣

Since we don't have any races until November, I thought it would be fun to share some photos and stories from over the years. A little more about us and how we got here, beyond the funny posts and race updates.

Starting with this one. 😂

Owen couldn't be bothered to take a picture when there were cars on the track.

We'd take him to the races and while other kids were running around or complaining about being cold or tired, he'd sit completely mesmerized for HOURS watching the cars.

And every time the racing stopped, he'd pull on my sleeve and say, "More, Momma."

He's been obsessed for as long as I can remember. 🏁

I'm going to stop you keyboard warriors right there. 😂

I'm not saying it doesn't take a team to get a driver on the track. Of course it does!

But what I mean about individual sports is that once the race starts, it's you against the world.

You can have the best equipment, the best setup, and the best people behind you, but once that green flag drops, it's ultimately up to the driver.

Individual sports teach you that no one is coming to save you. There's no one to pick up your slack, no one to tap in when you're tired, and no one else to take responsibility when you make a mistake.

And I think that's a valuable lesson for kids to learn.

I'm not saying one is better than the other. They both teach valuable lessons, just in different ways.

So absolutely, let your kids play team sports. But I'd encourage you to see if there's an individual sport they might enjoy too. 🏁
