My preparation eventually evolved beyond memorizing NCAA rules. I learned to anticipate the next several questions—and prepare my responses before entering the room.

Being prepared isn't just knowing the answer to the question in front of you.

It's anticipating the next one.

And the one after that.

My experience with NCAA enforcement transformed the way I approached important meetings: understand the rules, study the exceptions, recognize the gray areas and think several moves ahead.

You can trust your people and still verify what matters.

Terry Waldrop thought the briefcase containing his players’ required test registrations had been loaded. He didn’t physically check—and that one assumption turned an ordinary road trip into an unforgettable night on I-35.

The leadership lesson lasted much longer than the mistake:

Trust your people. Give them responsibility. But when the outcome belongs to you, verify what cannot be left to chance.

"My relationship with Coach T goes beyond the regular "player-coach" relationship. I consider him like a big brother to me. He is a big part of the reason why I graduated from college, played in the NBA, and have a great career in the best league in Europe (Spain). As a foreign student learning English for the first time, every night he would work with me. He took me under his wing, not only as a coach, but as a tutor and mentor. 📄 When everything is on the line, paper beats memory.

Every course had to count. Every grade had to post. Every transcript had to arrive. Every payment needed to be accounted for.

When the NCAA started asking questions, documentation became protection.

Because five people can remember the same meeting six different ways.

Paper is considerably less imaginative.

🎯 Sometimes “impossible” really means nobody has built the right plan yet.

A junior-college recruit needed 39 additional credit hours before he could enroll. The solution wasn’t an academic miracle—it came from working backward from the deadline, understanding the existing rules and building a calculated plan.

Some things truly are impossible. Others are simply unplanned.

What looked impossible on a transcript had an explanation.

Six hours of spring correspondence work.
Twenty-one hours of proficiency credit.
Six hours of summer correspondence work.
Six hours of traditional summer classes.

Aggressive? Absolutely. Impossible? Not even close.
