Who doesn’t love great backgrounds? As fisherman we are so lucky to get views like this on a regular basis. Add a nice 42” Striper and its all Icing on the cake. Fish was revived and released by 👍🏼

My man with a Beast of a Striper. I can say this year We have seen more and more guys/gals doing the right thing and reviving these big females and releasing properly. Slow hand clap 👏 to everyone who is on board.

My man showing how to properly support a larger fish out of the water. Give support to the fish from the belly. When they are in water they are supported thoroughly but out of water gravity kicks in and need to be supported. Try not to hang all that weight from the jaw. What are good techniques you like to use?

Hey the fish boiling behind you! Hooked up! Haha All Jokes aside one of our best surf fly fisherman in the West Coast. Love seeing his post and wealth of knowledge.

Keep em wet. The less we can keep these fish out of the water they will have better odds of survival. Imagine running 500 yards full sprint then asked to hold your breath under the water right after. Be thoughtful of your practices. Revive to survive. for the awesome pic!

with a great message. With all the regs trying to be changed we firmly believe it’s a step in the right direction. Is it perfect? By no means, but it shows we can get some progress. We would rather see something done than nothing. There is always room for improvement and let’s get the needle moving...

Fishing the right water can be key to finding fish or skunking. working a nice trough in the Monterey Bay. These fish migrate out of the Sacramento-Delta system and work their way out to the Pacific Ocean in the summer and often go as far south as San Diego or Far north as Oregon.

Surf Stripers on the fly, thats a challenge in it’s self just fishing it. Add wind/ Structure and Waves and it can be a mess. Props to for being consistent with it and always on the release.

What’s better than a bent rod? I’d say releasing the fish that gave you that adrenaline and doing it all over again! 🤘 with the proper form.
Spot on.

This is a rock somewhere in montauk.
Where does not matter.
Safe to say that this ocean and I know each other pretty well.
Stood here for years.
From dusk until dawn.
Hundreds of fish.
Some big. Some small.
All revived and released safely.
Many I catch here never leave the water.
Carefully logged each one.
The time of the tide, the wind, the bait present, the plug, the water temp and the barometric pressure.
Over the years one trend is undeniable.
The data and the feels.
And that trend is less. Yes, less. Much less.
Less fish, less size, less excitement.
Just plain ol’ less.
This morning I woke up early.
3am.
Full moon in September.
Southwest wind.
Incoming tide.
White water and white bait everywhere.
I knew the conditions were perfect.
Yet I also knew that the fish would be on the small side.
Few and far between.
Feeling like my pillow was the better option, I went with the rock.
Why? Because I’m a surfcaster, and to be one you have to do it.
Though the good times and the bad.
We are living in the bad times.
Really bad.
There is a decision to make regarding this striped bass fishery.
I’ve tried to be balanced.
Not shout or bitch and moan.
To channel everyone’s frustration and help sustain this fishery we created the .and.release.crew
A crew of the best and most principled surfcasters in the land.
Catch and release.
Three simple words that define an ethic in fishing that is badly needed today.
We talk about sustainable fishing practices.
To me those words are as deflated as the balloons I pick up from humans who seem think this planet is their private dumping ground.
I don’t want to sustain this fishery.
I want this fishery to be rejuvenated, revived.
Years of bad fishing practices have decimated the striped bass stocks.
It’s time to make the voices heard and find a way for us to rebuild this fishery to a place where the bass are healthy and plentiful once again.
