I acknowledge those of us men who have been hurt as children or adults. I see you as I am you and have been you. But we need to transform our pain so we don’t transmit it on to those around us.
We can heal.
We can be brave.
We can be courageous.
This ultimately requires Vulnerability.
Vulnerability sits at the gooey centre of all the emotions that we least want to feel: shame, fear, anxiety and uncertainty.
Vulnerability is also at the heart of all the things that we most value: love, belonging, joy and connection.
We can’t pick and choose which of those emotions we open ourselves up to when we are vulnerable.
Vulnerability is also at the heart of everything we say we value: courage, innovation and creativity, adaptability, inclusivity, problem solving, ethical decision making, resilience and resetting, giving and receiving feedback and accountability.

It never gets easier sharing my story or the horrific abuse I endured in my childhood because it is very real.
I can still smell my abusers and know their fragrance well. I still see the flickering lights.
But I share in the hope that people see it is possible to heal and do and be better.
The abuse of our children and partners needs to stop!
We can heal.
We can be brave.
We can be courageous.

Healthy masculinity means being honest with oneself about your own feelings, needs and desires. It also means treating all others with the kindness and respect that you deserve. Healthy masculinity means not using your size, strength, or power to get what you want from others.

Healthy Masculinity | UMatter You’ve probably heard expressions like "man up" or “real men don’t cry.” While the concept of gender is often associated with women, statements like these reflect gendered expectations for men too.
