The 14U Redbirds are in Hershey, Pa for the Beast of the East tournament to end their season this weekend.

They opened the weekend against the CT Storm out of Connecticut who entered with a 33-6 record on the season. Caleb Lopresti toed the rubber for the Birds going 3 2/3 innings striking out 6 while only allowing 2 runs before turning the ball over to Jaxon Cash who went the distance striking out 5 and only giving up one unearned run. Reed Hodge led the offense going 2-2 with 3 runs scored en route to a solid 6-3 win.

In the second game, our Birds squared off against the Hickory Hornets out of Bel Air, MD. The southpaw Kasen Sanchez got the nod on the bump giving the Birds 4 strong innings, striking out 3 while only giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. Reed Hodge came on in relief and picked up right where Kasen left off striking out 2 over the final 2 frames only surrendering a single hit. Conner Castillo’s 2-3 with 2 RBI night gave the offense just enough to better the Hornets by a final score of 4-2.

The 9U Redbirds were back on the turf in their final tournament of the summer at the Country Roads Season Closer in Bridgeport, WV, this weekend – playing up against 10U teams following the cancellation of the 9U bracket.

The Birds pitched by committee with Clayton T. (6), Jack P. (23), Landry O. (10), Logan B. (99) and Bryce P. (7) each seeing action on the mound. Jack P. and Gus R. (11) each collected two hits in the win over St. Clairsville Red Devils 10U. The Redbirds jumped ahead early and scored five runs in the first two innings, only to see their lead shrink to a one run by the third inning. The game remained close until Clayton T. hit a three-run triple in the fifth inning, and the Birds finished strong in their first win of the weekend.

The boys also earned a win against the Canonsburg Knights 10U in their second game of the weekend. With the game tied in the top of the 3rd inning, Gus R. tripled, scoring three runs, and Logan B. doubled to extend the lead. Eli E. (2) earned the win on the mound and Gus R. collected the save. Hitting came from up and down the lineup, and the Birds tallied ten hits total in the game.

Game three on Sunday featured a rematch against the Canonsburg Knights 10U, and an explosive nine-run third inning helped lead the Birds to victory. Landry O. earned the win for Morgantown. The right-hander gave up two hits and two runs over four innings, while striking out four. Bryce P. collected the save. The Birds piled up 13 hits in the game. Logan B. went three-for-three at the plate. Jack P., Finn C. (44), and Gus R. each drove in two runs.

Unfortunately, the Redbirds 9U came up just one run short against the Covered Bridge RiverJaxx 10U in the semifinal on Sunday afternoon. They played hard against the eventual tournament champions. The Birds had eleven hits in the game, with Jack P. leading the team with three hits in four at bats. Finn C. and Gus R. each collected multiple hits in the game. The boys got a taste of 10U baseball and look forward to the competition next season.

Overall, the Morgantown Redbirds 9U team has had animpressive season, compiling a 33-12 record and claiming three tournament titles. The boys improved their batting, fielding, pitching and catching (shout out to Isaac B., Finn C., and Cree P. for their work behind the dish) throughout the season. Many thanks to the coaches for their dedication to the team, the families for their time and support, and most importantly, the players for competing in every inning of every game.

See you next season!

The Morgantown Redbirds 9U showed up and showed out this past weekend, taking the championship at the Ripken Experience Chesapeake Knock-Out tournament in Aberdeen, MD!

A powerful pitching performance from Clayton T. (6) carried the Birds past the Newtown Blue Dawgs 9U in game one. The righty notched 12 Ks and gave up one run in five innings. The game was scoreless until the Redbirds blew it wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eli E. (2) singled to center field, Logan B. (23)doubled to left, Gus R. (11) doubled to right and Owen. B (17) singled down the right field line, each scoring a run. The Birds added six more runs in the fifth and sixth inning, leading to their first victory of the weekend.

Saturday afternoon, the Birds jumped on the Radnor Rebels Maroon 9U early in game two, taking a four-run lead in the first inning. The weather came to play, too, and the game was interrupted by a three-hour delay due to lightning strikes in the region. The boys picked up where they left off, though, and piled up 11 hits in the game. Jack P. (23) was his own sort of storm – hitting two inside-the-park homeruns and a double to drive in six runs total. The second win secured the 9U Birds the one seed spot for day two of the tournament.

But day one activities didn’t end after the play on the field stopped. The Redbirds and their families cheered on the West Virginia Black Bears as they squared off against the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Ripken Stadium. The boys celebrated the day’s victories well into the evening and were even featured on the jumbotron.

Sunday’s game play kicked off with a win against Rockland Elite Red 9U. Finn C. (44) and Landry O. (10) each collected three hits. Bryce P. (7) earned the win on the bump, allowing five hits and two runs over four innings, and Gus R. (11) collected the save.

The Redbirds kept firing on all cylinders in a semifinal rematch against the Radnor Rebels Maroon 9U. Jack P., Landry O., Finn C., and Clayton T. each collected two hits in the game. Logan B. surrendered four hits and one run while striking out five to earn a complete game win.

The championship came down to the wire on Sunday afternoon as the Redbirds faced off against Deep Run Thunderhawks 9U. Jack P earned the win, striking out seven, and Landry O. collected the save. Jack P., Landry O., and Finn C. each had two hits. With the game tied and the winning run on third base, Gus R. launched a ball to center field to walk it off and take the title back to Morgantown.

The Redbirds 9U had a great time on and off the field this weekend. Hats off to all the other teams in the bracket and thank you to our hosts at The Ripken Experience Aberdeen. The boys will be back on the diamond this weekend at the Country Roads Season Closer in Bridgeport, WV. Let’s go, Birds!

What an unbelievable finish to the season!

The 8U Redbirds saved their best for last, winning the Deep Creek Classic in dramatic fashion. They battled back in the semifinals, forcing extra innings before delivering a walk-off win to punch their ticket to the championship. Then came a title game for the ages—after falling behind 14-3, the Redbirds kept fighting, chipped away at the lead, and completed the comeback with a stunning 21-20 walk-off victory!

A huge shoutout to Charlie, who delivered both walk-off hits, and congratulations to Charlie and Noah on being named tournament MVPs. Also, big congratulations to Noah, Parker, and Frankie for launching home runs throughout the weekend!
