Over the weekend we talked about the importance of putting your talents to work, and being reliable/trustworthy when no one is there to hold you accountable.
This time I used The Parable of the Talents/Minas told by Jesus in the book of Matthew & Luke.
in short,
A nobleman was called to a distant land to be crowned king, but before taking off, he left each of his servants a talent (currency) which he required to be used wisely before his return.
When he returned, he called in his servants to give an account of what they accomplished with that talent. The first turned 1 talent into 10, so was given 10 cities to rule on behalf of the king. The second turned 1 talent into 5, so was given 5 cities to rule on behalf of the king. But the third hid his talent out of fear, was given no bigger responsibility and lost his talent to the one who already had 10.
1. Put your talents to work, and more will be given to you. Hide your talent, and more will be taken from you. Fear will rob you of what is promised to you.
2. If you can be trusted with the small things, then the king will trust you with bigger responsibilities.
When a parent, teacher, coach or any leader asks you to do something, can you be trusted to get it done when no one is watching, or there to push you? Will they be able to trust you with more next time around?

Last night I talked to the kids about the importance of building a strong foundation!
I used The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders as an example told by Jesus.
In short,
There was once a wise builder who built his house on a strong foundation made out of stone, so when the storm came, his house stood firm and was not shaken. But the foolish builder built his house on a weak foundation made out of clay, so when the storm came, his house was swept away.
You are the house that needs a strong foundation to take on the storms that life brings.
For me, in life I need 4 stones to have a strong foundation.
- Your faith, what do you believe in?
- Family and friends, we don’t choose our family, but choose your friends wisely.
- Health, take care of your body. Eat and drink things that will give you strength and energy. Exercise so you are strong in body and mind. Sleep well so you can recover.
- Education, which goes beyond school. Find a thing or two that you love and become great at them. You will become confident and find purpose in those things.
In soccer/futsal there are 5 stones to a strong foundation. With every stone you leave out, your foundation weakens, and gives room for the storm to break you down.
- Dribbling
- Shooting
- Passing
- Receiving
- Defense
Build a strong foundation as an athlete, but more importantly as a person.
