“It’s a Girl: The Three Deadliest Words in the World”
Presented by Dr. Christina Fattore, WVU Council for Women’s Concerns Member and Assistant Professor in the WVU Department of Political Science
The WVU Council for Women’s Concern Will Show Film on Human Trafficking and Female Infanticide
The film, directed by Evan Grae Davis, explores the tragic practice of female infanticide, sex-selection abortions, in India and China. Those who survive infancy are often subject to neglect, and many grow up to face extreme violence and even death at the hands of their own husbands or other family members. The film discusses these issues and asks why this is happening, and why so little is being done to save girls and women. The film will be presented by Dr. Christina Fattore, WVU Council for Women’s Concerns Member and Assistant Professor in the WVU Department of Political Science
Sponsored by the WVU Office of Multicultural Programs and International Student Life and Global Services. Events are free and open to the public. Pizza will be served. For more information, call the Office of Multicultural Programs at 304-293-0890 or visit our Website at

"Happily Ever After, And Other Fairy Tale Myths: Why Fairy Tales Still Matter."
March 24, 6-8 p.m., Mountaineer Room
Faculty Presenter: Dr. Lisa DiBartolomeo
Sponsored by Student Affairs Sophomore/Junior Year Experience
Sure, fairy tales are part of every child's upbringing, and form part of everyone's cultural background--but why should we study them? Go back and read the beginning of that sentence for the answer. Precisely because fairy tales are such a pervasive but little-examined part of all of us, regardless of where or when we grew up, they cry out for critical consideration. Dr. Di Bartolomeo will discuss the way fairy tales inculcate values, gender roles, and cultural norms, all in a seemingly harmless guise.
Email [email protected] if you are interested in a FREE dinner, presentation, and gift. This event is for twenty-five students, so sign up now – seats are filling up fast!
