Mountaineer Ropes - Camp Mountaineer COPE and Climbing Program

Can’t say enough good things about how well the climboree went this weekend. These pictures are from the Wilderness Climbing Weekend which we hope to make a regular part of our program. These seven scouts got to experience an overnight backpacking trip to the Ravine where they carried all of their camping and climbing gear. They climbed for almost 18 hours on Bucky’s Balcony and Rhododendron Ledge. They got to put up tons of first ascents and had a phenomenal weekend. Thanks to Sasha Timkovich for making the long trek north to help out!

Climboree 2023 was held at Camp Mountaineer this past weekend and was a combined effort of National Capital Area Council and our own Mountaineer Aea Council. 400+ in attendance and 70 or so staff. A very busy weekend with Big Zip, tower, high course, low course, three natural rock top rope areas and a bouldering area all open at the same time. We also had the camp rifle range in operation, dutch oven cooking classes, camping and wilderness survival M B programs and the trading post open.

A huge shout out to all that made this happen both on the front line with program and behind the scenes making sure it all ran smooth. There are too many people to list.

The High Course was in full swing this weekend as well!

A lot of work being done at camp. Tonight a crew installed bolts on Washboard and Morgan rocks.

Big shout out to Menawngihella Lodge 550 for the work yesterday on the new Ravine Trail. A lot of work has gone into development of the new climbing area and easy access is very important to the continued use of the area for many Mountaineer Area Council activities. The trail and new signs look great. Congratulations to all the new OA members!

After a full day of work yesterday at camp Ian and Ryan had a chance to run down to Seneca Rocks to have a little fun. Looks like they enjoyed their trip!
