It’s a guessing game as you age up. Moods and feelings. Emotions and actions. You navigate towards something called adulthood. 🤣 I mean heck I’m STILL efforting daily. But WE ALL know kids aren’t even close to that stage. Yes, they are going that direction, but let’s slow them down and let them be kids. Support and direct, not JUST TELL. Give them some leeway, but make sure the direction is positive. Of course some freedoms are great, but let’s not allow them to drive a car at 12. Every kid wants to grow up fast. Hang with the older kids, walk into town, come home late, sleep later, or better yet get home late and wake up earlier. 🫣 REMEMBER they ARE KIDS!!!!! All this being said…hold a standard for being respectful, honest, hard working, kind, trustworthy, kinda tough, resilient, and fun. WE all have to grow up…YOU ALL do, I’m fine here 😆…but let them also be kids with some positive direction. Good Stuff!!!!!

The QUESTIONS shouldn’t change…win or lose. The tone in which you ask should stay the same. Keep the order in which you ask the same. Certainly don’t fall off topic. The answers kept simple…it can be difficult to get simple answers, but like always explain standards and grow towards them. 1. Did you play as hard as you could? 2. Were you the best teammate you could be today? 3. What did you learn/get from the day? 4. Did you have fun? It’s about building!!!!! Developing!!!! Progressing!!!!!! WE certainly will have the conversation about goods and bads. WE will most definitely have the conversation about efforts. BUT right after it…just get the developing stuff. Parents don’t be an ARMCHAIR Coach either…”why did Coach call that?” “What happened why didn’t you guys do this?!” “Coach shoulda ______!” NOT because you don’t know what you’re talking about, but because you’re there to support them…and immediately afterwards that stuff isn’t gonna support s**t, it’s going to invoke negativity, regression, and lack of trust for a process. Give it some time before you elicit your Bill Walsh knowledge of the game. Good Stuff!!!!

I know I’m pretty tame 😑. The song was appropriate because I listened to it pre-game for my last (I think) 3-4 years playing. The last one on my playlist. Yup on discman/walkman. 🎧. The start is pretty fitting as that’s how I was built. Slow to FULL SPEED. I walk slowly with a distinct gait. For an old fella, when necessary, I still can up the tempo in a sprint. I train different from what it was back then. BUT I go hard. Overall I am much calmer on game days IN the game. My pregame stuff as a Coach aren’t fake, not antics, not for the likes. It’s for the athletes I coach. It’s for the parents and fans to see what I’m trying to lead and build in their sons or daughters. I know it’s not 20+ years ago. I know sports have changed. I know it’s “different.” Still though, we turn the scoreboard on. We keep track of time. We count points and runs and goals. Soooooo REALLY?! Is it that Different?!? Compete to WIN. Go HARD because YOU should. Be a GREAT TEAMMATE because that’s the EXPECTATION I’ll give ya. Let’s run this Saturday!!!! Good Stuff!!!

Things take time…then when ya think you’re there, they take more time. I am NOT patient. I do understand time and diligence. First pic is about as patient as I’ll be. The next two…where it had to start. The next series til the end, what it takes to progress. Just like athletics, life needs progress and patience. Ok, now let’s GO!!!! 👏🏼 Good Stuff!!!

So NOT everything is inline IMO. Bring back on the field has been amazing…even the last stint years back was a positive BUT here’s the big BUT…what have we allowed to be the standard of toughness? TWO “tough-categories” 1. Physical…this is the easy one. Playing hard, feeling discomfort, lack of energy or just plain tired…being uncomfortable physically. 2. Mental…things the hard one. “You don’t want to make anyone feel bad” or “watch what you say” OK…I am so damn reserved and learning how to communicate without hurting feelings…seriously though it still happens!!!! It’s always going to happen in a game that is violent and fast. You can’t hide the fact that young athletes and some almost physically young developed men, run around and bang into each other. Sooooooo you can’t play slow. You can’t play timid. You can’t “allow” for periods of mental lapse. The STANDARD needs to be held. I DON’T CARE about age….the game is the game. 5th grade-> 12th….limiting the standard to not let feelings be hurt doesn’t allow for a SAFE ENVIRONMENT. Tell me all you want about “being fair” and “coaching up,” but from practice to scheme to gameplay to PLAY the standard has to be met. If the standard isn’t met…we don’t have a safe environment. So of course WE develop…and by developing we have a safer environment. So GO FAST and VIOLENT!!! Good Stuff!!!

Coaching on the field has a different energy. The situations that are in front of you call for the Coach to figure out what’s necessary to lead and support. The Coach also needs to know how to fit the ROLE in which is tasked. This is much harder than you think. I’m a big believer in structure. Coaching there is a hierarchy. If you think differently, you’re silly. You have to know how/where/when you fit. How the players react. How the tempo proceeds the need. I’ve never been one to mince words on a field…gridiron or diamond…but you NEED to “get it” or the STAFF doesn’t work. From Head Coach to Get Back Coach…to freaking IPad handler to Sideline Bystander…figure what role it is you play/want/do. IF not you’re just making it harder for the top of the pyramid to lead. This goes for the Head guy/gal too…if they can’t communicate what’s necessary, the ones under don’t know where he/she fits. Let’s not even mention either 🫣 there are some programs that have maybe 15-20 kids with 12-13 coaches 😑. Know the role and complete it. Btw Kyle with the phot credit. He’s 🔥 find my angles. 😂 Coach the day folks!!!!! Share if it fits too. Good Stuff!!!

Despite a comedic want, I am NOT the Mayor!!! I do enjoy taking pictures. I enjoy being he moments to look back at and smile about. Whether it be family, athletes, experiences, sites, food….whatever, I like looking at them. Without a doubt I am not a live in the past person. I rarely talk about athletic accomplishments. Sometimes I chat about at bats or funny situations with some of my athletes…but I’m a now and what’s gonna happen soon person. The pictures give me a chance to enjoy what that moment was. The recall for each is pretty cool too. Maybe it’s me making sure I don’t age too fast 🤔. Regardless they are captured moments of smiles, tears, happiness, and cherished times. So look at your 📷 roll and see what ya got. Good Stuff!!

ABC …Attitude Balance Consistency… and yes I have preached this for a LONG TIME!!! Have I followed it all the time? Nah…I struggle with it. If I were to look back into my journals I’d see when ABC is clicking, things are most likely and relatively smooth. But let’s be honest, and with myself, very rarely are things smooth. The aim is to keep ABC in check. Come back to it. Read it again so that your aim is the outcome. It certainly can be a struggle. If the effort is there it may get rewarded. Those around you will sense that effort and follow. Leadership is then created. Leaders!!!!! Not followers!!! I don’t expect all to be public speakers and captains…what I do have an expectation of, is that he or she leads in some way!!! My example, with hardwork, dedication, applying each of him/herself to difficult things, understanding ABC…all ways to be a LEADER!!!! Now go get the week!!!! Good Stuff!!!

Saturday was filled with Football. Two coaching and one spectating. ALL of them filled with my ❤️ for the game. ALL of them with my heart rate going too fast too. 🤣 BTW also darn cold 🥶 too!!!!!! 🖤💙 more than prevalent in each. Amazing kids and young athletes finding their way through growing up. I’ve coached football for a long time. Walked sidelines for awhile too… BUT this year…TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!!! High School to Youth daily…oh btw FTS too. It’s pretty awesome. Time is limited. Efforts are at 1000mph daily. Focus is more than locked in with minimal room for error. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut the IMPACT is AMAZING. I’ll keep it at that!!!! Have a great Sunday!!!! Good Stuff!!!

“You made it!!” That was the theme last night. To a Barstool Sports fan finster account!!!! 🔥😂😜🔥 Coaching movement, programming, ABC, progression, speed/strength/power/conditioning…that’s easy. That isn’t the 🍲 & 🥜. The TRUST you garner from your athletes is really what matters. Being there for them in different arenas. Listening, YET mentoring…letting them SEE you repeat what you actually preach. Handshake, fist bump…and yeah I hug my athletes. BUT I’ve earned it as well as ask them if a hug is ok. That’s not Fuc&ing given!!!!!! Of course my own background assists, but to be honest, NONE of them were alive when that first career happened. THEY ALL SEE now!!!!! Living IN the moments daily. Heck a bunch of already know I’m planning the third career Tom Hanks and I are gonna be buddies 😂🙈. I’m blessed and very lucky for what my path has been. Not easy. Not given. Only earned. Only worked for. Hopefully I parlay that into what my athletes see. Good Stuff!!!!
