A Very Special Catch Out of Morro Bay 🎣

Every once in a while, the ocean throws you a surprise you won’t forget.

We were absolutely thrilled to put this beautiful yellowtail on the deck. Finding one this far north was a huge surprise, and as far as we know, this is the first yellowtail caught out of Morro Bay this season.

We’re going to keep the location and depth to ourselves for now 😉, but we can say this fish was completely unexpected.

And what a fight! Yellowtail are incredibly powerful fish, and watching our customer battle this one all the way to the boat was exhilarating. You couldn’t wipe the smile off his face afterward—and those are the moments that make running charters so rewarding.

We don’t know whether this was a lone traveler or a sign that there may be more around, but either way, it was one hell of a surprise and a fish we won’t soon forget.

Yellowtail bite was pretty decent. Found this one trolling just outside the marina in about 14 feet of water.

They were really keyed in on nightcrawlers today. 😉

No, I will not be sharing the exact spot. Some things have to stay secret. 🤫

LAST FISH, BIGGEST FISH!

You couldn’t ask for a better way to finish the day! On one of our final deep-water drops off Morro Bay, California, she hooked into the biggest fish of the day and brought it all the way up from the depths.

Sometimes that last drop is the one that counts!

We captured stunning footage of the gentle giant known as the Mola mola (the ocean sunfish)! These bizarre, majestic creatures are unlike any other. Watch it glide peacefully as we meet it eye-to-eye in its deep blue home.
