What You Can Expect
You’ll be seen and supported in class. You won’t be expected to follow along with me or the person next to you. Poses are demonstrated, instructions are clear, and you’ll be given individual attention as you practice.
You’ll be challenged, but the practice will also meet you where you are. We use props, modifications, and therapeutic applications when they’re helpful. Sometimes we’ll stop and look at something more closely, work on one part of a pose, or try it a different way. You may discover that a small change completely changes your experience of a pose.
This is one of the things that distinguishes classical yoga from yoga taught primarily as fitness. We aren’t moving through poses simply for the sake of movement. There is specificity behind what we do, how we do it, and the order in which we do it. The practice develops around the people in the room and evolves to bring a sense of balance to the whole person.
Yes, you’ll get stronger. You’ll develop balance, mobility, and stability. But you’ll also learn a lot about yourself in the process. You begin to notice how you respond to challenge, where you hold tension, when you need to work harder, and when you need to soften.
Over time, you become more aware and develop discernment. You begin to understand what you need and have more tools to help yourself—physically, mentally, and emotionally. That, to me, is where yoga becomes much more than exercise.
You’ll be cared for and challenged. We’ll work intelligently, leave space for questions, experiment, and laugh a little too. I hold the lineage I teach with deep respect, while keeping the experience approachable, curious, and human.
Whether you’re new to yoga or have practiced for years, you are welcome here.
