Meet your roper Monday….Ladies and Gentlemen we present to you The Steer Commander himself…

How many years have you been swinging a rope?
Started riding and roping when I was 50 years old so 18 years

Who got you started in team roping?
Tommy Butner was my friend and teaching partner and he was going to teach me how to rope but he was killed in an auto accident on his way to school so I had to learn by myself.

Brenda - we have been married 48 %½ years
Kids and Grandkids Names/ Ages
We have one daughter, Brandy, and her husband Patrick Hartley. One granddaughter, Kylie, who is in graduate school at Texas Tech, and one grandson, Quinn, who is a Sophomore at Butler Community College.

What did/do you do for a living when you aren't chasing steers?
Professional Farmer, Stockman, and Team Roping Producer and a retired career tech instructor

Your current number-one mount
Blue Radar is his registered name but I call him Medicine Man because when I got him I kuew he was going to cure my ails.

Best horse you've ever owned or ridden
Stinkbait is the one that I have won the most money with so far. I bought him from Charlie and Lorie Patterson and won a jackpot the first roping that I entered on him.

Your all-time favorite win or proudest roping moment
Heeling for Derek Brink from South Dakota and winning 3rd in the Average at the World Series of Team Roping Finale in Las Vegas

Your favorite jackpot or rodeo to win
The Title Fights in Arizona in February

What's your go-to jackpot snack or drink?
Diet Coke and then a ribeye steak especially if Perry Patterson has to buy it

The best piece of roping advice you've ever received
"Don't Be Afraid To Win"..,Robert Frair told me this the first time I was in a World Series short go and then I won it.

Just a reminder that 3 Point Productions award discounted entries to their World Cup Finals to the top five in each of our ropings. Even if we do not pay five holes in a roping, the top five are submitted and you earn $100 discount per entry for each top five finish. Guys, these add up! The list has been submitted to 3 Point Productions and they will have the information at their finals.

How many years have you been swinging a rope? Hard to say exactly, off and on since I was a kid, started competing in mid/late 90's then quit in the early 2000's and didnt rope for 19 years until starting back up 3 years ago.

Who got you started in team roping? That would be Gary's fault.

Wife's name: Kaye

Kids (and grandkids) names/ages: kids Tahmara 41, Brent 39, Kaylin 32 and Cole 27. Grandkids....Afton, Marissa, Reina, Rico, Sayer, Lawson, Eva, Salma, Mateo, Lincoln, Elliot, Elias. They range from 12 months to 15 years old.

267 teams at Cross Bar Arena on October 3. Over $56,000 paid out. One roping at 100% payback.

We'll do it again October 31.

This month the High Roller moves to the 10.5 at 85% payback. The Outlaw Alfalfa Cowboy Classic 11.5 is back at 100% payback, 10 teams only.

Entries for the Classic open Thursday 10/29 at high noon — call Steve at (918) 698-1320, do not text.

All other ropings books open at 8. Roping starts at 9.
