📍 Start and Finish at Riverside Park - run takes place on the Granite City Greenway
🍮 1st EVER Sonker Challenge! This is an OPTIONAL challenge. During the 5KOTG - Sonker Challenge participants will make a pit stop, enjoy a delicious Sonker from Granny Ruth's Bakery, before jumping back on the trail to finish the race. A one of a kind Sonker Prize Pack will be awarded to the Sonker Challenge winner!
💠🏃 Just to make sure everyone is crystal clear... The Sonker Challenge is OPTIONAL and individuals wanting to run in the traditional 5KOTG will run the course as normal!

Mount Airy Parks & Recreation and Reeves Community Center are looking for morning and day-time lifeguards, in particular openers beginning at 5:15 AM! Waking up early may not be for everyone, but for some individuals, it is the perfect shift to start the day!

We have had high school, college and full-time employees work this shift before they head to school or the office. This shift has also worked well for part-time staff and retirees looking to get in and get out and have the rest of their day for their leisure!

Not a morning person? That's okay too, we are always looking for quality lifeguards at other times of the week!

If you have any questions, please contact Morgan, Peter or Shannon at 336-786-8313. Certification is preferred but willing to help certify.

We had a great Friday afternoon at the Mount Airy Housing Authority showcasing all the amazing recreational opportunities available❗️From swimming lessons, sports leagues 🏀, fitness classes, afterschool programs, scholarship opportunites and so much more…there is truly something for everyone! We enjoyed meeting our neighbors, answering questions and sharing how to get involved and stay active❗️

Today, as we remember September 11, 2001, we also remember the incredible heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away. ❤️

We honor the first responders, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, volunteers, and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage and selflessness 25 years ago — as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities today.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this meaningful challenge and helped us honor the heroes of 9/11 through movement, strength, and perseverance.

Progress is being made on the Tharrington - Big Lots area of the Granite City Greenway! Huge thank you to local trail enthusiasts Skip Leavitt, Chip Carriker, Steve Wyatt, Doug Draughn, Sharon Cihak, Brad Watson, Gerald Plaster, Mike Felts, and Harry Wilson for teaming up with the The City of Mount Airy, NC Grounds Maintenance Division and Public Works Department for these major cleanup efforts removing debris, filling banks and greenway shoulders that have washed away, placing stone and split rail fence posts and rails! We hope to have this section of greenway open by the end of September!

Do you love volleyball and enjoy helping young athletes learn, grow, and have fun? We’re looking for a volunteer coach for our 6th–8th Grade Volleyball League!

🏐 Practices: Thursday nights
👟 League: 6th–8th Grade Volleyball

You don’t have to be a professional coach—just bring your knowledge of the game, a positive attitude, and a willingness to help our players improve! 🙌

Excited to see Mount Airy Parks & Recreation featured twice in the fall issue 🍁 of RECRE8 magazine - NC Recreation & Park Association's quarterly publication. Thank you for recognizing the "Community Slip n' Slide" community event and the Accessible Improvements project at Westwood Park creating Mount Airy's first Universal Playground, shelter and paved trail surface. 🚸
