🪙 Introducing the 3SF Challenge Coin Program!

👉 How it works: Let Anne know that you’d like to participate! You’ll receive a list of horse-related adventures, tasks, and learning opportunities. Think “watch a lesson,” “take apart a bridle and put it back together,” “help feed horses,” and other fun stuff! The goal is to foster deeper learning and well-rounded horsemanship amongst our riders, and to encourage involvement beyond weekly lessons.

📝 Keep track of completion dates and have Anne sign off as you go. Twice a year, you’ll turn in your Challenge Log. Complete 90% or more of the activities, and you’ll be recognized at a special 3SF event, and awarded this exclusive 3SF Challenge coin!

👢There are two types of Challenge coins: the “Paddock Boot” Challenge coin for those younger than 13, and the “Tall Boot” Challenge coin for those 13 and older. The Challenge activities will be learning and growth opportunities appropriate for the designated age range, and the list will change after challenge coins are awarded, so you can keep learning and keep earning. Once you have been awarded a Challenge coin, you can collect it, or use it to recognize an act of excellence in another within the equine community and beyond.

There is no cost to participate in the 3SF Challenge coin program, and it is open to those in the lesson program or boarding with 3SF! Our first round of Challenge coins will be awarded at our 🎄Christmas Party on December 11, so let Anne know you’d like to participate and get started on those Challenge logs!

Today is a big day for a very special young lady! Today, Kenzie Miller starts her journey in the nursing program at Shenandoah University. Kenzie started riding with Anne Morrison Anne 10 years ago 😱 after falling in love with riding at Camp Strawderman Over a decade, we’ve had the great privilege of watching Kenzie blossom into a beautiful, educated, and effective young rider and horsewoman, as well as a kind, confident, capable young adult. Kenzie got her first pony, Firefly, in 2017 with Anne, after strategically baking her father cookies over a weekend. She has participated in countless hunter paces, foxhunts, and horse shows, and has been at the core of so many barn memories, smiles, tears, and laughs. Most recently, Kenzie has skillfully introduced her young Thoroughbred mare, Jen, to horse showing. We are so proud of you, Kenz, and it is an honor to have been along for the ride. We are cheering you on from the rail as you ride toward your next success in life. 🥰

🥵It was a hot day in McGaheysville on August 9th for the second Great Beginnings horse show of the season, and the 3SF riders were on 🔥🔥

🏆Averie Burgess started the day for the crew in the Beginner Equitation division. A first, second, and sixth secured the Reserve Champion for her for the division.

🥇Annalee Simms rode Firefly in the Novice Equitation division, where she won Reserve Champion. The pair also performed very well in the Beginner Pleasure classes, and were awarded the Championship for that division.

🌟Kenzie Miller rode her own Thoroughbred mare, Jen ‘N Tonic, in Jen’s very first horse show. The mare handled the new atmosphere with confidence thanks to Kenzie’s skillful riding and the partnership they have built over years together. The pair received ribbons in the Junior Pleasure division, including a second place in walk-trot-canter. Kenzie was all smiles as she left the ring!

🍭Andie Miller had a tremendously successful day showing Sugar Rush, owned by Mary Jean Kempfer. This was Andie’s first show in many years (her last outing was in the leadline!), and it was also Sassy’s first show. Andie introduced Sassy to the show ring and new jumps with patience and tact, which gave this talented young pony a great first experience. Andie and Sassy won ribbons in the Junior Pleasure division, and performed beautifully in the Intermediate Hunter division, scoring the victory in the second over fences class.

Congrats to these girls on a successful outing!

Anne traveled south on August 1st with 3SF riders Averie Burgess and Annalee Sims, for the Middlebrook Horse Show, held at the New Meadow Farm in Steeles Tavern, VA.

🏆The Middlebrook horse show began in 1958, and is a treasured community tradition hosted by the Middlebrook Ruritans. It is a multi-discipline horse show with classes ranging from Leadline to jumping, to gaited horses and a costume class. The show was extremely well attended and classes continued into the evening hours!

🥇Annalee and Averie competed their ponies, Firefly and Dandy, in hunter and hunter equitation classes, including a jumping class for Annalee and a poles class for Averie. Both girls received top ribbons—including multiple blues— while successfully navigating their ponies amongst the busy atmosphere of the show grounds!

🧦🧦🧦3SF was thrilled to participate in the revival of this sweet little show. Thanks to the Middlebrook Ruritans for their hard work in hosting and planning every detail to ensure a smooth-running show day. We enjoyed the range of classes offered, and the general family atmosphere amongst all the participants and volunteers alike.

🐴 As always, we are so proud of our riders for taking their hard work at home and putting it to the test outside of their comfort zone. Their dedication and devotion to their horses is evident in their riding. Great job, girls!

Our lesson program emphasizes safety and empathetic communication with the horse, in addition to correct riding technique. These develop into lifetime skills, applicable to many aspects of life.

Lessons at 3SF strongly emphasize equitation and correct riding technique, but it’s not just riding in circles! Today these girls practiced opening and closing a gate on the farm during their lesson. Understanding how to move your horse’s fore and haunch left and right is just as important in jumping as it is on the trail!

🐇What’s Easter without a little Candy(man)?! 🍭

Ava and Candyman showing nice form for a balanced landing over a downhill log in a lesson. Ava maintains a generous release with a soft arm, so that Candyman can use his head and neck to balance on the backside of this jump. Great job, Ava!
