Sean will be running a class tomorrow at 9 am if anyone needs to get fitter.

I’m Delighted to nominate my buddy Josh Austin for some well-deserved recognition for the golden barbell award. The heart and soul of the gym. This guy isn’t your average Joe – he’s a 5-year Marine Vet, a Level 2 CrossFit coach, a family man, and a former Regional CrossFit Games athlete. But wait, there’s more to this superhero tale.

Picture this: Josh took on the challenge of building a massive 5500 sq ft CrossFit gym all by himself. And guess what? He did it while battling not one but two gnarly injuries – a torn bicep and an open leg fracture. Talk about true grit!

What’s even cooler? @crossfitmtjuliet , the gym he helped build, was on the brink of shutting down. But Josh, along with his awesome wife, swooped in to save the day. They moved the whole shebang to their property, set up shop in a pole barn, and kept the CrossFit dream alive. Meanwhile, Josh worked his magic building the new gym right behind his house all while working full-time at a 3rd shift job.

And did I mention he’s a family man? Yeah, this guy is juggling it all – military service, coaching, family life, and still finding time to be a top-tier CrossFit athlete. His dedication to his family is as rock-solid as his commitment to the fitness community.

Josh’s story isn’t just about lifting weights and doing pull-ups. It’s about overcoming setbacks, building a community, and being an all-around legend. He’s not just a hero; he’s the kind of guy you want on your team, inspiring everyone to push their limits.

So, I’m throwing Josh’s name in the ring for some well-deserved recognition. He’s the real deal, and his impact on others is off the charts #goldenbarbellaward #crossfit 02/27/2024

One of our members nominated Josh for the “Golden Barbell Award.” The nominee is supposed to be the “heart and soul” of your gym. I couldn’t agree more and so proud to call him my husband. He’s truly the hardest worker I’ve ever known❤️

Do you have the strength to climb out of a ditch? Can you outrun a potential attacker? Can you scale the basement stairs while carrying a basket of laundry?

GPP = general physical preparedness

A baseball pitcher, for example, needs to practice drills to increase throwing speed. Soccer players practice footwork and agility drills.

CrossFit’s aim is to forge a broad, general, and inclusive fitness that will prepare trainees for any contingency — not only the unknown, but the unknowable. This fits right in line with Siff’s definition of GPP as balanced physical conditioning. CrossFit even precisely names and defines 10 general physical skills in which we strive to gain balanced capacity. They are: cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility, and balance.

Ultimately, in CrossFit, our performance in as many different physical challenges as possible defines our fitness. This ability to accomplish tasks can be precisely measured using simple tools like a stopwatch, scale, or measuring tape, and provides a clear picture of our GPP.

Everyone needs GPP, find out why CrossFit is the best way to prepare for life ↓
