How long will it take my child to complete a Level?

This is a question we hear often at Brighton which is why we want to address it today!

When we started working on Brighton’s curriculum over 8 years ago, we decided to design the curriculum with 7 Swim Levels. Each Level contains 8-10 skills. Children often take 6 months or more to complete a Level. In the higher Levels, it can take students a full year to graduate to the next Level.

We see tremendous progress in each Level and celebrate students as they make progress toward mastering a skill. It’s a big deal!

As with anything, children learn at their own pace. Our teachers understand children learn in different ways which is why explaining a skill, demonstrating the skill and using various training tools (like fins, swim mitts, barbells, etc.) are all utilized in our teaching technique.

We’re often asked how families can continue practicing swim skills at home between lessons. Today, Miss Sydney is demonstrating cup pours, a simple activity that can be practiced in the pool or even during bath time!

Pairing cup pours with the verbal cues used during lessons helps swimmers become more comfortable with water on their face while developing breath control and confidence in the water.

This month’s Staff Spotlight is Miss Lily Grace!

Lily Grace has been part of the Brighton family for almost 3 years, we’re so excited she’s moving into a full-time role! She’s been a competitive swimmer for 13 years and spends her summers coaching the Park West Pirates swim team. When she’s not in the pool, you’ll find her surfing, relaxing at the beach, or enjoying a day on the boat!
