☀️ Well… Mother Nature won this round. 🥵💜
With extreme heat in the forecast, we’ve made the tough decision to cancel tomorrow’s Marty’s Summer Splash Bash at Cooper’s Cones.
As much as we love messy, muddy, splash-filled fun, keeping our little explorers, families, volunteers, and staff safe comes first. (Marty tried to tough it out… but even mudpuppies have their limits! 😅)
We’re so sorry for the change and appreciate your understanding. Stay tuned though… we’re working on a few pop-up dates in August still!
💜 Stay cool, drink lots of water, and give Marty a little time to recover. 🧊💦
To say we have been busy this summer is a HUGE understatement!! But we have loved every minute of it. And we've enjoyed being able to travel the tri-state with Marty's Mobile Mudroom and bring education and outreach to SO many people! Here's just a short video of what we've been up to.

Recently we were posting Marty's Sunday Spots. We've been SO busy this summer we haven't had a chance to keep up with them! Today we're going in a little bit different direction with Marty's Sunday Spotlight. In the weeks to come, I'd like to spotlight some apps and products that we use when we're out and about.
🦉🦆🐦🦅This weeks Sunday Spotlight is the the Merlin App from Cornell University. This is a free app you can download on your device to help with bird identification. One of our favorite parts of this app is the ability to record while outside and the app identifies the bird species you are hearing. So cool, right?
Have you used this app? If you have, what is the neatest species you've identified by sound?

Thank you to all the "parents" out there who have believed in us since we started! It truly takes a village to raise our next generation. Today we'd like to thank the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends who help parent our children!
We’re at the library today until 4pm! We’ve come inside due to the heat. Look for us in the Kids’ Corner!!

Pretty cool to find these in our ‘neck of the woods’!!
DNR biologists made an exciting discovery at a recent BioBlitz in southwest Indiana.🎉
Our nongame aquatics biologists participated in the annual Indiana Academy of Science BioBlitz held at Harmonie State Park. During the event, a state endangered Bantam Sunfish was collected from two small Wabash River tributaries!
Prior to this discovery, the Bantam Sunfish had only been reported from two other locations in the state, however, those collections weren't confirmed by DNR biologists.
Extreme southwest Indiana marks the northern extent of the Bantam Sunfish’s range. After this recent find, the DNR nongame aquatics team plans to expand its search in the area, hopefully finding a larger source population.
A BioBlitz is an event rooted around discovery, where professionals and amateur enthusiasts come together to search for and document as many different species as possible within a certain location.
