Step by step, through fun, encouragement, and gentle learning, they begin to recognize the pieces, make moves, and build confidence.

There is something truly special about watching little ones discover that they can do hard things.

That is why we created this 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 for kids ages 7–10 at Chess Queen’s Club in Mountain View.

This is a warm, focused, beginner-friendly chess class for children who are new to chess or early beginners — kids who are ready to learn the game the right way, in a place where they are seen, encouraged, and guided. ✨

In 4 weeks, your child will learn:

♟ how to set up the board correctly
♟ how each piece moves and captures
♟ check, checkmate, and real game basics
♟ how to start a game with a simple plan
♟ beginner tactics like forks and pins
♟ how to protect pieces instead of giving them away
♟ how to slow down and think before moving
♟ how to play with focus, patience, and good sportsmanship

But the real lesson is bigger than chess.

Chess teaches children that every move matters.
That rushing has consequences.
That 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹.
That mistakes are not the end — they are part of learning. Brainpower 🧠

That is why we are opening two new small-group chess class series at 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 in Mountain View.

✨ First Moves Chess Lab
Wednesdays, 4:00–5:00 PM
Ages 5–7
For new and early beginners.
Stories, games, puzzles, and playful chessboard adventures.

🏆 Chess Confidence Lab
Tuesdays, 6:00–7:15 PM
Ages 7–11
For kids who already know the moves and are ready to build tactics, strategy, confidence, and tournament readiness.

𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 because children do not learn chess by being lost in a crowd.
They learn when a coach sees how they think.

Happy 85th birthday to Nona Gaprindashvili — the first woman in history to earn the full chess Grandmaster title.

Not “women’s grandmaster.”
Grandmaster.

That distinction matters.

Before hashtags, personal brands, sponsorship decks, and “women in leadership” panels, she sat across the board and made history move.

Women’s World Chess Champion from 1962 to 1978. A legend from Georgia. A reminder that sometimes the most radical act is not to ask for permission — but to win so clearly the system has to rewrite the title.

As someone whose life was shaped by chess, I look at Nona’s legacy with deep respect.

She didn’t just open a door.
She checkmated an assumption.
